Plumbing / Re: Thermopex line
« on: December 05, 2014, 10:45:02 AM »
How long do lines last?

I have (5) wrap thats about 20yrs old and 30" underground.

Its hard to establish a heat loss because I have (4) lines with 5 wrap in one line.

I think some of the heat loss may be atributed to cold and hot lines running together.

Is my theory correct?

You will be amazed at the precision that it shapens out.

Very quality tool for chainsaws, expensive but good!!

My house was heated with and older HVAC which only has strip heat and an OWB.

My Father-In-Law installed gas logs to supplement.

If I used the strip heat I'd be pushing $6-700.00/mnth.
Running the OWB, I'm at $250-300/mnth.

This is a 3,500sqft +/- block house.

I agree with Coolidge, saving money alone makes me feel blessed to own an OWB.

Fire Wood / Re: Locust Thorns

My Father-In-Law fenced some acerage and bought Goats to control the locust on our property.

The Goats have been gone for 5-6yrs and have just started seeing Locust in the field again.

Setting the tree afire sounds alot more fun though.

Electronics / Re: Countdown Timer
« on: December 02, 2014, 02:35:53 PM »
I used both timers in the links.

I never had luck with the mechanical timer. I would go through (1) per season until
I ordered a digital model from Amazon. They can be picked up at Lowes & Home Depot.
I've never had a problem with the digital version.

The mechanical one would fail every time it got below 30 degrees? Weird but that's what happened.

My father uses one of the more expensive ones from lowes, hes had it for years with no problems.
I believe it's more of an industrial version for site lighting around $80.00 though.

This is the one I use

Like old chenowth I wouldn't try pushing it to much.

Sadly your house has already been effected and the actual market value has already declined. This happens all the time when a state
plans routes for new roads and highways.

I live near Winston-Salem, N.C., the state surveyed and made drawings available for the beltway going around Winston aver (10) years ago.
Once they did this hundreds of home owners were stuck with their properties and their home values plumeted.

It's not fair but the Country, State, Municipality, railroad and power all rule their domain.

I've seen a city claim the soil under a large (BB&T Tower) in Raleigh, N.C. was condemed so they could install anchoring systems
for a retaining wall. The owner was CONCERNED these anchoring systems may interfear with their foundation.
The city of Raleigh didn't give a F____, the owner conceded and the city moved forward.

Not fair at all in any situation. I feel for you and hope you are able to walk away with enough money in had to satisfy you.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Seperating floor heat form central air
« on: November 12, 2014, 07:29:54 AM »
Currently my system is ran through a large loop with (2) hvac units then into the floor.

I'd like to seperate my floor heat from my HVAC units. I have (4) lines running into the house.
(2) going to and from the HVAC/Floor system and (2) going to my DHW.

Could I seperate the floor, run a loop for the DHW with heat exchanger and run my floor from that "zone"?

Let me know if info is needed.

I to can get a hold of plans and specifications for burning but I've found it's not worth it!!!

The plans work fine for starting fires but if it's more the a 10 pages it doesn't burn properly.

Way too much work for the small amount of heat.

I know but it would be hard to talk the misses into another when last year was close to the first season with mine.

I love my new stove but the grass is always greener!!

44
Awesome, that is half the battle with cresote and water rotting OWB's out.

Love that BL design!! Now I need enough money to buy one.

45
Slim,

Can water make it to the firebox when these stoves are shutdown and its raining?
