If anyone is interested or will be in the area Monday through Thursday this coming week, at the New Hamshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH, the Hybrid Formula Race Cars built by students from approx. 30 colleges and universities from around the world will be showing off their labors of hardwork. Spectators are allowed to visit the garage area where the teams are working on the cars and ask questions if you so desire.
There will be;
Technical inspections for safety reasons and to be sure everyone is following the rules.
Egress competition where the driver must be able to undo the 5 point safety harness and exit the car in no more than 5 seconds.
The tilt competition where the cars are strapped to a tilt table (with the driver in the car) and tilted to more than 45 degrees to be sure no fuel leaks from the fuel cell.
Acceleration/Braking competition. Who can get between points "A" and "B" quickest and stops quickest without skidding the tires.
The endurance race where most of the race they have to run on battery power only.
And the highlight of the competition is the 30 lap obstacle course. Each team is given a certain amount of fuel that will NOT last the entire race. This is so everyone has to use their battery system for more than a show piece. The first across the finish line is of course the winner. The only thing they win is the bragging rights for the year. Last years winning team was from Italy. Hope to see you there! Roger
