General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / adding a tall chimney
« on: February 07, 2016, 08:25:44 PM »
I had to add a tall chimney to my boiler for the smoke to clear our house (or my wife was going to kill me and put me in the boiler, or make a BBQ); boiler about 100 ft away but in the woods.
I saw a picture that someone on this forum added 4x 4ft double wall pieces. Well, in 2013 I did the same. Added 4x 4ft double wall stacks, with guy wire anchors into the concrete pad.
I just wanted to update all of you, because some pople were concerned that the boiler may over heat from the extra draft.
So, I change my seal every year, and I had zero problems. I mean my boiler works perfect. I put a clean out T at the bottom of the chimney, but I don't even need to sweep it more than 1x a year if even. I burn 60% coal, 40% wood, may be that helps.
Anyway, thanks for everyone's help and input.
No smoke, happy wife...
Actually, the extra draft is nice when I open the door. All the smoke just disappears.

Plumbing / Vertical Y Type Strainer filter
« on: October 19, 2015, 01:55:24 PM »
Is there a problem installing a Y Type Strainer filter vertically at the boiler, where the line goes into the ground under the boiler's service door before the water pump? I have little room inside, and it would be much easier at the boiler. All the mess is outside.

thanks.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Water Pump
« on: September 15, 2014, 06:39:54 AM »
Which water pump do you guys recommend?
I have a NCB-250/ nature comfort.
Currently it has a Broeder Pump 3 speeds: 0-20gpm $195.00, but I want to buy a back up one in case it breaks during the winter.

Nature comfort recommends the Broeder, which is the one the boiler comes with or they have for the NCB 250;
1. TACO 0-41gpm $413.00
2. Grundfos 0-17gpm $147
3. Armstrong E9 0-38gpm $309
I guess I could buy some other from Manard too.

Thank you

Natures Comfort / NCB-250 COAL
« on: November 26, 2013, 11:16:13 PM »
Does anybody have any advice on the NCB-250 Coal, how to effectively use coal in it.
I've been burning wood mainly, and it works pretty well ( I installed it about 2 months ago). I only get about 8-10 of burn time. It's set at 180F with 15 degree diff. , with the draft door open all the way.
Should I change these settings for longer burn time, and/ or different setting for coal?
What's the best way to burn coal in this unit? Mound it in one area (back or front), or just layer it evenly flat on the shaker grade, or just toss it in between bellow the bricks level?
Or is it better to mix wood and coal?
Also, should I fill up the boiler completely at each re-load, or just put in an approximate amount that it will need till the next re-load.
thank you.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / chimney extension
« on: October 31, 2013, 06:57:56 PM »
We just bought a Natures comfort 250 coal. I need to add to the chimney, so the smoke will clear our house. I'd like to add about 16 feet of double wall chimney pipe to the 7 foot tall boiler, to get close to our roofline. Some people say that this will increase the draft in the fire box, and the boiler will overheat. Does anybody have any experience with adding 16-20 feet of chimney pipe? I called the manufacturer, they said, 20 feet is ok, no problem. They just recomended, a double wall pipe over 11 feet.  Thank you. Anybody uses the 250 coal and heats with coal? Any inputs, experiences would be greatly appreciated.
