Central Boiler / Re: 5036 boiler has corrosion

Probably rusted from condensation running down and puddling , the more wood moisture you have the worse it does it.

Central Boiler / Re: Central Boiler LP igniter question
« on: October 29, 2020, 03:58:11 AM »
Does CB still offer a propane ignition option like that? If it wasn't reliable and got dropped then it might not be worth chasing. I keep a little propane torch in the shop, I can relight my furnace is less than a minute. In cold weather it never goes out anyway.

Portage & Main / Re: BL 34-44 chimney and boot

I don't know what chimney is used on that model, but I advise my customers to build a shed over the wood, leaving the furnace outside. Safer and no chimney needed.

Yes, having step 1 units isn't really better than none at all as far as legality goes .

The list of manufacturers with EPA approved units is considerably shorter post May 2020. Can the site be updated?

Makes my grandma's stories of growing up during the blackouts of WWII seem a little more real.

I've struggled to get firewood this year. April was quiet while everyone stayed home, now it's quite busy. Everybody wants some kind of heating project done.
It's raining from the hurricane but off to work I go!

I burn when it's under about 25% moisture, time to get there varies on the weather.

Hardy / Re: The future

That's too bad, there are old Hardy units everywhere around here. Will they still offer parts? I've thought of keeping some on hand, things will wear out and I get calls for a lot of different brands now. Seems like no one offers service anymore.
