I didn't relize we have to run the water pumps year round? I just figured you shut them off after winter and just let them circulate one day in the month?

My dad has the CB 6048 and my grandpa has the CB 5036. They seem to be good units but my dad and grandpa have to go out and fill there stoves at 9 or 10 at night when it gets cold out to get them through the morning. And there water temp is still down by morning. They also seem to burn more wood and and ash removal is a pain.. I fill mine around 5-6pm and don't have to worry about it until morning. I still got all my parts from a central boiler dealer (since they are right down the road). There is nothing to these stove that you need a dealer close by. Just from my opinion, portage and maine makes a better product. Research central boiler leaks, then search portage and Maine boiler leaks.. You will see what I'm talking about ..

Mine isn't much, maybe a half cup of water.  but I keep my ash really low and there are not very many coals in my stove. Should I throw more wood in to keep a lot of coals in there? The third week I had my stove I had a lot of coals where if I didn't stir them up the air wouldn't come from the bottom slots. Is that how we should run these BL's. When there were a lot of coals there was no condensation in the ash pan also.

I also have condensation in my ash pan, but mine is not dripping on the outside. I'm burning dry seasoned wood and set my set point to 185 with a 10deg difference. I thought it would change when it got cold but even the couple weeks of cold weather it still had condensation in the ash pan.

I also researched boilers this past year, I made my decision from this site and mainly from slim Jim... I bought a 3444. My dad has a CB 6048 and my granpa has a CB 5036. I'm glad I bought the P&M over the central boilers, for many reasons ( ash removal, blower, bricks, round fire box, heat exchanger, and you can split the boiler for future repairs or replace water jacket). My dad and grandpa also have to go out and throw wood in late at night ( 9pm or 10pm when it get cold) to get them through until morning and there water temps are still down. I dont have to do that with the 3444. My dad said when his boiler is done he will be buying a P&M.
