so my old house has dirt floor in basement , if I  put some pex in the  dirt  how well  you think  that  work . ??

I've got to ask, why? Is your basement cold?  Stone foundation, Wet, not insulated?

Put some rubber roofing over the dirt and Sprayfoam the exterior walls to 2 feet below grade. My basement is the warmest part of my house.

coolidge could you get pics of your walls where you spray foamed? Ive thought about doing that for half my basement. Did it help a good bit keeping the cold out?

That looks better than I was expecting. So I assume that the dirt and whatever else is laying on the stove did not effect how the foam stuck? You got me thinking now. Not to be nosey and you don't have to answer this but how much did this cost you and what foam did you use? Frothpak???. On the other side of my house I have block foudation, With about 4ft of it exposed above ground. Not sure how I want to tackle that one? Thought about reflective wrap or foam. Suggestions?

that was done by a pro, I thought it would be better for high pressure. Expect to pay $2 sq ft for 2" of closed cell foam. Plus by law there needs to be a thermal barrier over the exposed foam, avg $1 sqft for the spray applied.

What does that 2" of closed cel foam get you for an R value?

I keep looking at this waste oil boiler and am seriously considering have it sprayed with foam for insulation.

I'd have to call around and see if we have any contractors in the area that would mess with something that small. I bought a foam kit for one boiler I built for someone else, wasn't cheap, about $700 a decade ago.
