Is the sheet about to hit the fan
« on: February 06, 2015, 04:46:24 AM »

I watch crude oil prices as it does effect our industry, in the past week crude has risen from below $45 per barrel to over $52 this AM, I think in July of last year it was at $105, it's all over the place,  if things go wrong some are saying that $200 per barrel would be very possible, some folks may think I want to see that for our industry, Please be assured that is not at all what I wish to see as it would cripple our economy worse than we can imagine, I believe the best way for us to stabilize our economy and our Oil market is to be independent from those world crude prices, How about calling your elected congress and asking them to truly work on America's Oil independence?

It sure seems obvious to me that the best security is to keep our money here instead of in the pockets of those that would like to do us harm. But what do I know, just a dumb farmer that never had his common sense educated out of him with one of those fancy college degrees.

It just needs to be a happy medium for some it benefits for me my business runs on fuel and the prices go up it cuts into my profits that does not make me happy... We all know how bad we hate paying feul surcharges well so do my costumers so it's very hard for me to justify paying the cost of feul.

Yah, can't get away from petroleum prices when farming. Everything and I do mean everything is tied to the price of oil one way or another.

farmboy, you bring up a good point. When I grew up there were 2 or 3 farmers in every section(640 acres) raising a few hogs, cattle, corn and soybeans. They all made a good living and all the neighborhood kids knew how to work. The biggest tractors were 100-125 hp. Today we farm 5 or more sections, have 500 hp tractors and burn diesel like it was free. CRAZY!!! Look at how many people would be employed and how much fuel we would save if we went back to the "old" days.

Were own close to 250 acres in one piece then rent a little better than another 1000, we have 2 or 3 guys around us that drive their equipment 20-30 miles just to pick up another 40 or 50 acres. Back in the day when grandfather bought the original farm it sat fallow for several years as nobody in the area wanted to take on any more acreage.

Its not just oil and or gas its everything, cost $200 bucks a week to feed a family of four. CRAZY. Wait until ISIS takes over the oil fields, then we will feel it. I am with Slim i hope it doesn't happen, but if it did maybe it would wake up our STUPID Government.

$17,000, that is crazy. You must live on a lake or something...  My 150 acres is a fraction of that. I realize location is key here and obviously where your at land values must be sky high. Holy moly.
