Atvalaska,is that competition smoked brisket?  What do you smoke on?  What a beautiful view and I'm a moral mushroom man myself.  To eat not to sell!  Roger I had you pegged!  Would I be fair in saying most on this site are right leaning?  Would anyone actually admit being on the left?!?!

General Discussion / Get to know me!
« on: February 18, 2015, 05:00:04 PM »
I'm getting sick of reading everyone's comments and not really having any idea who I'm talking to.  Have the smart pin this one to the top for quick reference and let's get to know each other a little better.  I have pictures in my head of what a lot of you are like but I really have nothing to base it off.  For instance I picture slim as skinny, mustache, ratty jeans, smoker, prescription glasses that auto darken when he goes outside, middle 50's,not much into sports, into politics, not a big drinker but maybe a cheap beer if anything!  Let's hear from ya!  I didn't mean to offend you either slim, that's just what I picture when I read your posts!  I will get it started.  I'm 33 years old, just got married in September, have my first kid due this september.  I'm a concrete guy of 13 years.  Residential, commercial, agriculture, walls, flat work, stamped, decorative we do it all.  Feel free to ask questions if you want.  Everyone seems to have questions about concrete.  I live in the country in a log home I built 5 years ago with no female influence and now that I'm married with a kid on the way was that ever a dumb idea!  I'm from a town of roughly 150 people in west central Wisconsin.  I'm about 20 minutes from la crosse and the Mississippi river.  I built a new shed last winter/spring for toy storage and tinkering (heated of course!). I'm into camping, grilling on my Green Egg,occasional drinker,Busch light and captain Morgan, cutting wood,Wisconsin badgers,Green Bay packers, and I quit smoking two weeks ago with Chantix.  I View myself as a libertarian for the most part.  Let's see what we all have in common rather than heating independence.  Can't wait to hear from ya.  Almost forgot,I got a 10 year old lab and 4 year old cocker spaniel who love going to the stove with me.  Also have two semi tame angora cats that sleep 4 feet away from my wood stove door.  It's only a matter of time till an ember lands on one and good night!

General Discussion / Re: skid steers
« on: February 17, 2015, 09:25:07 PM »
I think it's what you grow up with.  I can drive my bobcat t190 with my eyes closed but put me in a john Deere and get the hell out of the way.  They are like wood stoves, all are good, some are better, all have issues, all need maintaining. I couldn't imagine burning wood without my skid steer.  Farmi winch on the front makes life so easy.

Not to high jack the thread but I honestly don't think there is a stove out there that would heat 15,000 square feet mr maple.  I would have to guess I have one of the biggest stoves available and I'm heating 8,000 sq. ft.  That's all new construction also.  I really wouldn't want to heat anymore than that as I enjoy sleeping thru the night.

What is exactly considered "trash"?  We have piles and piles of 2x material at work and you can't find better sh!t to burn.  A load of 2x's will heat 600 gallons of water faster than any seasoned firewood.  Now that new laws are coming and the damage has been done,I say burn away!  What else could they possibly do!?!?

I figured out fair market value of the wood I burn and use half of that for a write off as I kinda sorta in a round about way use my shed for work.  A law firm does my taxes and they encouraged me to do it.

Regulations / Re: Final EPA ruling
« on: February 10, 2015, 04:06:27 PM »
I don't care if half of my town complained about my woodstove, the EPA would never hear about.  Why?   Because my town does not have an agenda.  Lung Associations, Oil Lobbyists, people and companies With money and looking for more money have agendas.  They put that money into the pockets of the right people and BOOM...their million dollar bribe turns into a billion dollar profit.  Does anyone on this site really think the government gives a $&@) about the air we breathe?  Come on and wake up.

Jwood I'm going to have to disagree with you here.  The EPA does not give a flying puck what ones neighbor thinks.  Go ahead and try and complain to the EPA and see how far you get.  This has to do with three things:  money, money, and money.  Call up the EPA and tell them you don't like the smell of your neighbors Chevy.  Do you think they care?  Nope

HeatMaster / Re: Sweating stove
« on: February 09, 2015, 07:00:01 AM »
Little bit of a design flaw in the stove I believe.  To much volume on the sides and not enough on top.  Sweating problem cured by cracking the door on a side note.  I added a seperate pump strictly to circulate the stove water which helped but still must be a dead spot on top.
