Help Ranco temp reading E2 (Wont stay running)
« on: January 30, 2013, 03:59:25 PM »

We lost power today while I was out working. I am not sure when, or how the furnace was at the time.  A hour after I got home the power was restored. But the furnace wont stay on.  I reset breakers and temp settings...but nothing works.

The display reads e2. When I power it off and on (or reset temp settings) it clanks on and blows for about 30-60 secs that clanks off.

Water level seems ok, as in it didnt boil over.

This is what is says in my manual

E2 - Appears if the control settings are not properly stored
in memory.
To correct: Re-set all settings. If the display continues
to show E2, replace the control.

Normally when a Ranco starts reading e2 its time to replace it. Sometimes you can make it last a little longer by turning of power for a few minutes but they never recover completely. Its easy to change one, just pull the cover and rewire the same way you found it. I imagine you had some sort of power surge that damaged the Ranco. At least I have had several that were damaged by either power outages or lightning.
