selling firewood? ???
« on: March 20, 2015, 09:39:46 PM »

Well I'm officially done talking to timber buyers. No shows and he hawing are apperently the order of business.

So I'm cutting it all down. I gotta get it done.

So what is firewood selling for these day's. I'm in northern indiana.

I figure the boy has to cut and split it anyways, he may as well make a buck.

Also, does anyone prefer buying whole logs? Or is seasoned split the only marketable wood?

I'm cutting red and white oak and cherry. Tomorrow hopefully a few dozen trees will be on the ground and processed into logs.

This winter if your hauling a full pickup load to the hay sales on Friday and Saturday I've seen it sell as high as $160 a pickup load. Mostly ash with some cherry and maple mixed in.

Bought 5 loads in two days for less than $70 a load. All full size pickups and it was stacked in the bed. Now with the weather breaking your lucky to get $70 a pickup load.

I'm in central North Ontario .
It's sold here as face cords [1/3 cord]
I got people all around me selling wood.
Some cut, split, delivered,,, maple, ash etc ,,for $100 a face cord.
Logs seem to be the answer for the high consumption households.
They go for $150 a full cord on average.
Boiler gets his some where up here cheaper,, but I can't find it cheaper than $150 full cord in logs

I will be selling wood, cut, split ,this year,on a small scale

Your wood sounds primo, but you gotta check the local adds,,see what it goes for,,, then undercut the comp >:D

Face cord is 4x8 x 16 inches
Bush cord ,,cord, or real cord is as you know 4x8x4 feet

Today I  was able to get 2 tri axle  dump truck loads hauled out. There was more cut but, when 2 guys are cutting,  hauling,  and operating a machine, things take time.

The dump bed is 16'longx4'highx8'wide. Stacked heaping with logs.

Stacked and split nicely I'm sure it doesn't add up to as much as it looks,  but,  a lot of wood none the less.

We processed 4 trees today and made apx 4 loads of 8"+firewood

The first load was all red oak and large logs. 20"+ second load was the same wood  but 8-20"    all quality firewood in my opinion.

We sold the loads for 150 delivered.

Save some for yourself if you have a good way to store it you might as well keep it to put in your boiler.

White, Red, Bur Oak. or Osage Orange ( Hedge ) should demand a higher price than your Cherry or any other woods. We don't sell conifer wood here ( Pine or trees like Pine ). I am central  Illinois If this helps.

I'll have plenty. Right now I just need to get the logs outta the way. We cut 5 cherry today. And some red oak. Then some sassafras went in the fire and mystery wood onto the misc pile. Cut about 15 trees today.

Honestly I've been giving away the wood and still can't get it hauled off fast enough!
