Design improvement for Ultimizer?
« on: January 25, 2015, 08:09:13 PM »

So, I am going to look at a rural home to purchase on Tuesday.  Therefore, I'm back on the idea of a conventional boiler and switching from the Optimizer 250 I am running now.

As I look at the Ultimizer design, I can't help but think it would be better if the baffle in the top of the firebox actually extended down into the firebox further to trap more hot gasses in the box before exiting out the top.  Anyone else think of this?

The only negative I could potentially see is that more smoke may come out of the firebox door when loading, but who cares?  Its going to belch out the door no matter what.

I modified my father in law's Hardy H2 with a plate that the smoke had to go around before exiting and he says it helped consumption.  How about someone extending that baffle down in the BL series to see if it helps?

As long as the fan is on during loading you should get minimal smoke out the door of the B-L. Are you not liking the 250?

I like the Optimizer 250.  It's easier to clean and burns cleaner than the GT-220 it replaced.  I'm not seeing the wood savings I'd hoped for but its not any worse either.

If I'm moving to the country though, I'm switching to a conventional style stove.

Good comparison, I as well would prefer the conventional in the right location!
