Central Boiler 6048 Smoke
« on: October 18, 2012, 07:16:29 PM »

Hi,
New to the outdoor stove world but is it common when you open up the front door of the furnace that you get lots of smoke in your face...does anyone use a respirator mask when  loading the stove?

when you open the door just crack it a little nd keep your face back.hold it there 10-15 second and watch the stack,it will let air rush in and take the smoke out. when I say keep your face back it can sort of back draft and flame will come out the door right up in your face.
I can pretty much tell when I walk up to it if ths will happen by looking at whats coming from the stack ,seen it quite a few times as a fire fighter

My furnance is located inside a pole buliding and sometimes smoke will overtake the building when loading it.  I use a respirator just because I don't like the thoughts of my lungs filling up with smoke everytime I load or clean the furnace.

Like Patton said. Just crack the door and let the scavenging air clear it first. no resperator needed.

What is the best type of respirator for smoke?

I only load my 5036 when it's firing i.e. draft door open. No smoke in face but an occasional singed hair.lol.
