General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: If you had to do it over again!
« on: February 17, 2015, 07:44:43 PM »
Have a wood doctor 10000 bought in 2008 and heat two buildings with it. Have had no problems but as i get older and New Hampshire gets colder wood sucks :), Have 40 cord of red pine and it burns great but the 0200 feedings is getting kind of old. When time comes to replace I am debating selling all the wood equipment(bobcat, kubota, splitters etc and moving some place warm

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: own woods but buy your wood?????

we cleared a lot we own for my nephew and I will have 40 cords of red pine I am chopping up right now. I have all the standing hard wood I will ever need but am to lazy to go out and selective cut plus there might be a squirrel living in a tree and I do not want to disrupt the little critter so I buy a grapple load every year:)

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Summertime Blues

I am burning year round, hate oil and propane that much. When I had my drill rig punched several holes for geothermal but with high cost of electricity here in the "not so free or die" state NH I felt it was not worth it. The projects I worked on that were geo were either paid by our overtaxed dollars or the person could afford any system and geo made them feel right with the environment gods.

I did a comparison a couple of years ago when we heated one place with wood and we used 1 kw more for hw  in the summer only using electricity compared with running boiler in the cold months. Heat 2 places now so use wood year round, may install solar tubes for summer months.

Cut all the propane lines out of both my places because" little woman" sees these stories and freaks. We have 2 500 gal underground 3/4 full of propane, maybe I can sell it back when price reaches 10 dollars a gal

I use upnoor pipe for filter, pump systems and my boiler, use sharkbites and gator and never have had a problem. I have the crimp tools but the quick fittings work great

Equipment / Re: Bought a Troy-Bilt 27 ton splitter

Split 8 cords this week with mine, 3rd year and still starts like a champ. Modified the cradle so splits do not fall on engine. Wish I could speed up the cycle time, probably will when I replace pump. But by then I will feel it is fast enough:)

Pools & Hot Tubs / Re: Hot Tub Exchanger System
« on: December 03, 2013, 06:48:14 PM »
My system is simply a ufuro supplied with a cir pump wired to a 1 degree aquastat thru a shell exchanger
We change the water twice a week(600gal), because I do not use chemicals. I am a well driller so water is not a problem and we store the used water for gardens in the summer, setting up a larger tank for using for a gray water system in winter plus gravity fed when we lose power

I should have explained I have 2 sets of lines running in my trench(stove and hot tub),plus i do not have any temp drop from the stove. Only melt is at the ends about 10 ft

10
i have some snow melt but I do not think I am losing heat from my pipes but through the pipe acting as a chimney. I sprayed foam into the pipe but need to do a better job Wood consumption does not seem excess. My other line with the same pipe to another building does not melt at all.

Electronics / Re: Electric cost question?
« on: August 11, 2012, 03:18:42 PM »
Last year I shut down the boiler in the summer and used my electric hot water on a timer 4 hrs aday, I used 1 kw more than the wood boiler( saved on wood) but had I left it on 24/7  I believe my bill would of been much higher for the same amount of hot water used. Now heat 2 buildings hot water and we burn free pine so it is a good cost savings

I hope all works out for you Mr. Turple, I have a 10000 and it has been dependable and heats 2 buildings well. I have talked to you in the past and you did get right back with my questions answered. Also if there are any weak links on the 10000 that we should watch out for the info would be very appreciated

Electronics / Re: Remote temp gauge
« on: January 31, 2012, 07:42:22 PM »
I use a remote meat temp taped to the incoming line and it works great, instead of running back to the utility room there it is on my desk:)
Now I get a remote feeder for the wood, heck a remote logger to cut, split, and stack too

Wood Doctor / Re: Barrett Enterprises not associated with Wood Doctor
« on: January 18, 2012, 01:43:39 PM »
Been in business for a few years(well drilling and pumps) and I hear both sides. I have installed a product and replaced it even thou it was not my issue swearing the whole time. If your supplier in this case Wood Doctor is owned by dirtbags who find stealing is the eleven commandment it can put one out of business real quick. I bought one and was made a "dealer" because there was no one in the area, come to find out this is standard business for them. My boy called a few months ago(I love my 10000) about a boiler and they said the same "no dealer we will make you one" just send us money and your stove is on its way", I educated the young lad and now he is looking else where. Talk to Neil of polar furnace yesterday and he said they will have parts and try their best to repair the bad rap wood doctor has given their product(they built wd stoves). I hope so because I really like my stove and would like to get years out of it.

Wood Doctor / Re: Wood Doctor Problems from Pennsylvania dealer

Thanks for the info on parts. A friend and I have been looking for parts in case we need them seeing how Wood Doc is no longer around. I am very happy with my 10000 but would never deal with wd clan again no matter what name the change to.
