I'm interested in burying some type of cable for monitoring purposes. Haven't decided what I'll use to monitor, but OWB is about 250ft from house. CAT 5 or 6? thanks.

What you do with is can make a difference. I would go with cat5e.

Just make sure it's outdoor burial rated.  Indoor Cat5e or Cat6 doesn't like weather.

Depending on what your using to monitor with might just be easier to plug it into a repeater or wireless access point and use wifi.

I think you are right about wireless. I need to research the best way to extend my signal. I always get lost reader about the best solution.

You could also just get an ethernet powerline adapter and not have to worry about wifi signal.

I’ve looked into those as well, issue seems to be to work best they need to all be on the same leg. Circuit breakers can also jigger with em. Least that was my take on em after reading a LOT of reviews.

Personally I’m gonna get around and bury some conduit to the boiler, then from the boiler to the shop. Next job thats close to me and when we can do it on a weekend I’ll just rent a trencher for the weekend.

Cat5e would be fine.  I would put in a few runs in case of non-ethernet needs.
