I get it Slim. Sometimes it's fun to get behind the wheel again. We have one semi licensed for OTR. Load gluten 7  miles from home, go to Loveland, Co. unload and reload dogfood and come home. 20 hours. 379 Pete, 550 Cat(C15) 18 speed. DANG! The kid did good when he bought that one.

I have a '69 Fastback with a 428 Super Cobra Jet, close ratio 4 speed, 4:11 Detroit Locker and power steering. That's the way Henry sold it and that is the way it will stay.  Just a whole lot of fun to drive.  Your car would be a lot of fun with a 390GT, they turn somewhere around 300 hp stock. A 289 with a few goodies would be fun too and that would be an easy swap. The stock 6 would be the easiest and keep the car original leaving you with the most value. Whatever you decide to do, Do what YOU want to do, it's your car. Have fun!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Winter
« on: February 15, 2017, 10:05:34 PM »
I've been watching this and a few other posts about this winter's weather. Haven't said much because 1. Don't want to rub it in. 2. Don't want to jinx myself.
We have had 4 inches of snow total all season. Two 1 inchers and 1 2 incher. They all melted within 2 days. The forcast for the next 10 days has 7 days over 60 and 3 over 70. Never seen anything like it. I know, I know. A lot of winter left. We could get hammered with snow in March, that is when our biggest snowfalls come. We had frost in the ground for about 4 weeks from late Dec. to Late Jan. It's all gone now. No mud to deal with because no snow. We're getting cows off the crop fields so as not to pack the soil.
I'm behind you guys all the way. Be careful and stay safe with all that snow you're dealing with. Good luck.

Don't pay that! Shop around and bust them for price gouging. 82 cents here in the midwest. My supplier told me they are giving it away in Canada but you gotta get it here! Tell 'em to come get it! That will piss them off!

It has been all over the place here too. -15 to 50 from one day to the next. One thing we don't have is snow. Cattle have been able to graze the corn stalks and hay fields better than ever. Saved us a lot of money on feed this winter. But, ice storm predicted for tomorrow into Monday. All the weather genius' are predicting 27 hours of freezing rain to be followed by highes in the 50's by the middle of the week. ???

-2 here now, supposed to go to -6 tonight. Wind is blowing from the north 20 to 30 so we have a wind chill going to about -20 to -30. Temp in the woodburner is doing ok but the house is 2 degrees below where it is set. I really need to get new windows.

I go through a ton of wood when its cold and windy.  For the most part because of my drafty house,  I don't think the furnace blower ever turned off last night and it has been the same all day.   It can cause abnormal burn or bridge.  Weather like this I realize the boiler is too small the draw for heat never stops.. just can't keep the water hot enough and the boiler can't catch up.

Did you check your thermostat? Your furnace t-stat may be set higher than your boiler's.

Lighted the fire today. Kinda warm but supposed to get cooler and maybe freeze this weekend....about time! It was nice to get harvest done, calves weaned and started on feed, cows on cornstalks and fertilizer applied before the weather turned bad. Yields were the best ever. Overall, a good year for our family and looking forward to a good heating season.

The first few days after shutdown seems a little weird. No hurry to get to the stove to reload, walking across the farmyard and not seeing or smelling some smoke. The best part is I'm gaining on wood supply instead of using wood supply. Looking forward to the warm weather of the season.

With temps in the 50's,60's and a few 70's it's time to stop burning for the season. Going to miss "feeding the beast". Will burn it out, let it cool a couple of days then load it up with cardboard and burn it hot to burn out the creosote. Clean it up good, pull a water sample and forget it until October.
