Cl 5648 advice
« on: December 02, 2014, 01:02:37 PM »

Just came across a  central boiler cl5648 that is brand new or should I say never been used sitting for 8 yrs on a pallet what should I be looking for as far as initial problems with it sitting around that long.. And also what would you guys think would be a fair price to pay for it I'm really considering getting it and swapping it out with my acme 235 getting tired of filling it every 6 hrs... >:(

I would try to put some water in it and drain it and see if the water is rusty.

I have never seen a acme in person but I just can't believe you are really going to be saving THAT much wood. Ya closed cell spray foam is the best insulation you can buy. Probably the natural draft and ripple top will save a little, but it is still a conventional boiler. Unless you can sell your acme for what you bought it for I think I would spend the money in making your system as efficient as possible. What do you have for underground pipe? Have you thought about improving the insulation of both your boiler and whatever you are heating? I think central boilers are probably one of the best but man unless you can get your money out of the one you bought....I don't know?

Woodman I have 1" 5 wrap Pipe underground I'm not loosing any heat what so ever so whatever come out of the boiler is exactly what coming in the basement I've spent countless amount of time and money on adding to get it more efficient I would that being that the cl5648 has a bigger tank and firebox would allow me to load more wood to get more time it's not the wood I'm worried about its mostly the burn time so when im out plowing in the dead of winter I don't have to worry about my wife and kids freezing until I get back..

Ok. Thought you were just trying to save some wood, didn't realize it is just undersized.

See if you can get hold of someone that has a pipe camera you can look down through the 2 inch vent on top and there is a 1 1/4 bushing with a drain valve take the bushing out and you can look in there $5000.00 and down would be a good buy good luck

Well after some conversation with the current owner I think she might be  hoping that she gets what she paid 6k I told her I would pay no more than $3500 .. She feels since it was never used that it's brand new? Lol sorry but brand new is off the assembly line. I guess I'm going to pass on that
