Direct piping cl6048
« on: December 15, 2014, 06:03:24 AM »

I'm thinking about hooking my new 6048 directly instead of through my HX  what do I need to do to make this happend and will this effect my propane boiler if it were to kick on if I run my line temp below setting..

You're central is a open system, you're LP boiler is a closed system, bad things can happen if you don't keep you're closed system pressurized. Get the proper HX and do it right the first time, it will save a lot of headaches in the future.

For the somewhat small price of a FPHX and another pump, you will save the big dollars of not messing up both boilers.

LittleJohn and mlappin are spot on, use the plate exchanger. Is your gas boiler a floor mount or wall hung?

If you haveany portion of the radiant system above the top of your OWB, you can cause vapor lock and water will not flow.

Gylcol has to be checked at least once a year,, just like water treatment to make sure it has not spoiled and turned acidic

Ok I'm currently running a 70 plate HX on my existing OWB but I see everybody talking about better efficiency hooking directly into the system so I was courious I want it to run the best it can..

Slim my boiler is a munchkin 199 floor not wall hung

My circulating pump runs constant to upstairs coil this for me is the. Best way so when house calls for heat upstairs the blower doesn't have to wait for boiler to heat the coil it takes time sometime that zone will not run all day due to downstairs heat rising upstairs everyone's set up is different mine works flawless it will. Vapor lock if pump starts n stop that's why the little 007 runs constant for all that water to cool off in attic could freeze if not run

If your not getting enough heat then it's one of two things, pump isn't moving enough fluid from the OWB or you need a larger plate exchanger. Running a 70 should be plenty unless you're heating a LOT of area or have more teenagers coming and going and you can't close doors fast enough.

Def dont do a direct hook up with a open outdoor boiler.. Being that said you will be exposing all of your plumbing to the atmosphere.. I have a direct hook up because my wood boiler is a closed system....Stick with the heat exchanger..

You guys sound like I dreamed this up Sunshine tree my dealer look over my hook up EVERYONES IS DIFFERENT with the elevation of my wood boiler said perfect for direct! Do t u think he would of like
d to sell me the HX ? What u really need to talk about is exposing to atmosphere did u add corrosion additive and TESTING THE QUALITY OF WATER!!!!! put a piece of steel wool in Masson jar full to top no air n see what it looks like in a day or two! Direct is fine depends on your setup! By the way I did ALL OF THE WORK PLUMBING THE WHOLE JOB NOT JUST SITTING HERE TALKING about what someone did for me!

Of course it depends on your setup, go out and buy a new closed boiler for your house, then tell them your going to hook it up to an open system and not pressurize it, let us know how well the maker of the pressurized boiler honors the warranty in a few years.

So I left it the way it was after hooking up the new boiler I watched my temps OWB set at 185 incoming to HX 184 back to boiler 165 now the other side coming out of the HX to my zones 160-165 is this reasonable temp after HX to feed my zones or should I be getting a higher temp?
