Equipment / New Stihl
« on: October 06, 2014, 08:54:54 AM »
I've got my new Heatmaster up and running, and I'm in the market for a new saw.  I have a smaller Stihl for smaller trees and limbing, but I really need something bigger for dropping larger trees.  I need advice from folks who have more saw experience than myself.  I'm between the 441 series and the 461.  There are 2 saws in each series, and I don't know if the small details will make a difference for an amateur like myself.  Thanks

HeatMaster / New MF 10000e installed and Burning!
« on: October 06, 2014, 08:48:46 AM »
Started the fire up this weekend on my unit for the first time. I could not have done this without this site!!!  I have a few questions about this unit that I couldn't find answers to in the owners manual.  I had an unfortunate falling out with my rep during the purchase of the boiler last winter.

-Is the access door above the main fire box door simply for cleaning cresosote?
-What is the reason for the fan control lever on the rear of the unit?  Is this to shut down the fan when loading with wood?
-I need to add a chimney extension.  Can I buy this from local hardware store, or do I need a special extension from Heatmaster delaer?
-It would be great if a Heatmaster dealer would contact me, as I need a new rep for future purchases, etc.  I live in Illinois

Thanks
Justin

Preparing to install my 1st OWB this weekend.  what's the best way to get the insulated pipe into the house?  I would think coring a hole through the foundation would be the best for decreasing heat loss, but I'd have to rent a drill for a job like that.  Going through the sill plate would be a whole lot easier and faster.  What should I do?

Thats a great idea!!!  I'll do that.  Any need for a Y strainer or some sort of air bleeder?

Thanks ITO...that helped a lot even thought I'm not using an indoor boiler, but rather my OWB for the radiant.  One last newbie question.

Since this is a new house and my plumber will be installing the LP water heater before I get around to installing my OWB, will this create a problem?  I'm going to have him hook up the water lines into the plate exchanger while he's installing the LP heater.  Will this function without having the other 2 ports on the plate exchanger hooked up?  Or is it best to just have him hook up the LP heater conventionally, and I can splice into the lines when ready?

Talk about a thread hijack.....I agree that a manifold system would be better, but that would also put this project out of my comfort zone.  I'm hoping that I can reconfigure and add that when I'm ready to use the radiant floor heating.  Is it really necessary to put in a mixing valve when the lines enter the house?  I can't find a 4 way valve for this application anywhere.  Also, does anyone have a link that shows how to plumb a plate exchanger?  Thanks

In the process of building a new house and need to get my new Heatmaster 10000MFe OWB running.  Ultimately, I'm going to run 1 loop into the house and the 2nd into a future outbuilding.  The house will have radiant floor in basement, heat domestic water , forced air furnace exchanger.  For this winter, I'll be happy to get the water heater and furnace hooked up.  This is my plan....please correct me or add anything that I missed.

Badger Grundfos GPD 25-10SFC pump with 1" 5 wrap underground pipe in OWB.  70' to basement which will immediately tie into a mixing valve.  From there it will go to a 20 plate exchanger for domestic water hx.....then into water to air exchanger in furnace and back to mixing valve before it goes to OWB.  1" pex for all inside work.

I will put a mixing valve for safety reasons on the gas hot water heater, and will put bypass valves on the inlet and outlet of every appliance.

Should I do anything else?  Do I need any drains or bleeders?  The OWB and basement floor are pretty even in terms of elevation.  Thanks for the help...this site is great!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Location of OWB

Thanks for all the insight!!  My anticipated location is amongst pines, and the dried needles on the forest floor worries me a bit.  Maybe I'm worrying for nothing as this is all new to me.  I'm basing my location where it will be easily accessible during winter months(thinking snow drifts).

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new Heatmaster 10000 E series.  Is it ok to put OWB's in the woods?  I have some open areas in my yard, but the most convenient areas would be in a wooded area.  With the price of a concrete pad and underground line, I sure don't want to move it later.  Does anyone have any regrets about the location of of your OWB?
