Buy the same stuff they use for de-scaling tankless water heaters. Some of the big box stores sell it as well as most plumbing supply houses.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Why didn't I just get geothermal
« on: February 21, 2014, 02:38:25 PM »
Geo is right up there with tankless water heaters. An average install will run you about $4000.00. A lot of money to spend to save $20 maybe $30 bucks a month. Over 10 years on the payback and not to mention the maintenance. Give me a tank type any day.

10' to garage, underground, then 30' along back wall of heated garage into mechanical room. the 40' into mech room is central boiler wrapped insulated pipe.

Site Suggestions / Like option

How about a "like" option that you can use. Other forums have this and if you like the post you hit "like" and your forum name appears at the bottom of that post with any others?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Infloor or Mechanical room?
« on: December 18, 2013, 08:54:51 AM »
So, in a nutshell. My mechanical room for the house is attached to the garage. Baseboard heat with infloor in garage and foyer.
All piping above grade is copper with about 60' exposed in mech room. I haven't used the garage in floor because keeping the door open to the mech room keeps garage at 55-60 deg.
Now I'm thinking that if I use the in floor in garage and shut mech room door i'll use less wood once the slab comes up to temp. With temps below zero at night and barely getting out of the teens during the day, I'd rather use the heat from mech room to heat the house. I'm thinking that there would be less heat loss? am I missing something?

General Discussion / 10,000 Cords
« on: November 18, 2013, 03:07:27 PM »
Yep, you read it right. I was talking to a guy on a jobsite today who had ordered wood from a guy in central Wisconsin.
The guy has a Christmas tree farm and wanted the oak and maple logged off 10 acres at a time so he could plant more Christmas trees.
Apparently there was a misunderstanding between he and the logger and SEVERAL HUNDRED acres were logged i.e. 10,000 cords of oak and maple.
Imagine having 10,000 cords of wood you can't use  :bash:
With the cost of wood in northern Wisconsin your sitting on $1,000,000.00 worth of wood.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Water level
« on: November 07, 2013, 08:55:40 AM »
Been reading some of the posts regarding water levels and adding water. This will be the third winter with the 5036 and I've never had to fill water. I check daily and water level is even with or above line on sight tube. Let a sleeping dog lay?
