Electronics / thermostat for infloor heat
« on: March 05, 2019, 01:24:35 PM »
Is there different thermostats for different applications? I was told there is and if so, I'd like to know what is a good or the best one for infloor heat in a shop

Plumbing / spirovent leaking
« on: December 07, 2014, 09:40:22 AM »
I have one installed on my shop setup. Worked great until yesterday. For some reason water is shooting out where the air is supposed to come out. I was somehow able to get it to stop leaking yesterday, but no such luck today. Anyone else ever have issues with them and how did you fix it. Thanks

Plumbing / inslab radiant heat question
« on: November 05, 2014, 03:35:21 PM »
I'm about ready to hookup my in slab radiant heat in my shop for the first time. I have 6 loops of approximately 250 ft. I'm using a 50 plate off the bl 2840 and that will be hooked up to this manifold. http://www.ebay.com/itm/360791092709? Since this unit has adjustable flow rates built in, what should I be setting each loop at? I'll be installing a mixing valve so what should my supply and return temps be at the manifold? Sorry for all the questions. Not the least bit familiar with this kind of system. Thanks

Now that you have a season on it, tell us what you think of it. I'm getting one for the up coming heating season and would really like to hear what you guys think of the boiler. Slim, what was your first impression of it at the show?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Working on my install
« on: March 09, 2014, 08:30:41 AM »
As some of you already know, I have a deposit on a P and M BL 2840. Won't be here until July, but I guess it's never too early to start with the install. I currently have a forced air wood and oil furnace, 2 seperate units. I'll be putting a water to air hx in the plenum and a water to water hx for my domestic. I also want to run a baseboard heater to my upstairs bathroom, so I wasn't exactly sure how to go about it the correct way. I decided to get in contact with slimjim and was I ever glad I did. I definitely would have run into major issues trying to do this all on my own. What he suggested I do was have my owb run come into a 50 plate hx and then setup a primary secondary loop for the in side install. This way I shouldn't have to worry about ghost flow especially with the baseboard upstairs.
I have most of the parts for the manifold and plan on starting to piece if together very soon. I'll post some pics as it comes along.
For anyone interested, here is a pic of the manifold that slimjim uses. I was a little confused at first as to how it works, but now totally understand it's purpose. It would be best to direct questions to him on how it all works

I put a deposit on a BL 28-40. Thanks to Brian, Slim and all the BL series owners here for all the help and info. It made the decision that much easier.

I know I've talked with some of you guys already, but I was wondering how everyone likes them so far? Thinking about getting one of these and wanting to know if there is anything I need to look out for

Electronics / thermostat wiring
« on: January 04, 2014, 01:17:59 PM »
It on my oil furnace. I know that's not what this site is about, but I'm stumped. I have an old 2 wire Honeywell and want to hook up an rth2300b1020 in it's place. There's only two wires coming to the old one and the terminals aren't marked so I have no idea where to put them on the new one. I went to check at the furnace and they aren't labeled there either. Any idea what terminals to hook up to on the new one? Thanks

Plumbing / rehau underground pipe
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:25:14 PM »
Anyone ever use this stuff before? I want to use Logstor but no one around here carries it and they don't have the proper tools or fittings either. Like everyone else I want to do right the first time. What size fittings are used with the 1 inch stuff? Thanks

Plumbing / 50 plate exchanger
« on: November 18, 2012, 06:36:42 AM »
A buddy of mine had this exchanger installed on his indoor oil boiler and decided to eliminate it and plumb direct from his outdoor boiler. I'm wondering if this unit would be overkill to heat my domestic hot water? He's selling it for a good price. It's made by Sec Heatexchangers and the model # is M31B. What do u think? Thanks

Plumbing / Heat Exchanger for dhw
« on: November 13, 2011, 05:36:29 AM »
I've lurking around this site for a few weeks and I must say that it's awesome. So much good info for someone that is new to the game. I don't have an owb as of yet, but i hope to be building one in the near future. I have an indoor forced air wood system now and I will obviously be putting a water to air exchanger in the plenum. What I'm thinking of doing is getting the exchanger now and plumbing it in to my electric dhwh by hooking into the bottom drain and the pressure relief valve with a circulating pump in there possibly wired into the furnace fan so it only runs when there is enough heat to properly heat the water. Power rates aren't getting any cheaper these days. Lol. Does anyone think this will work and would it be worth my while? Thanks
