Shaver Furnace / Re: 1ST POST
« on: March 25, 2014, 06:25:38 PM »
Shaver stoves actually function well.  We just got through one of the worst MN winters on less than 10 cords with a stock 165.  Might try a ranco but am not fully convinced.  Use less wood than friends with heatmor and central and am betting the naysayers have never run one long term

Shaver stoves are 75% + efficient.  It says so on the internet   ;)

We only use slabs for warmer weather.  Can't imagine trying to get through a -30 night burning slabs

Speeco 22 ton here.  Paid 899 for it thought it was a good value.  Seems well built but forget about starting the Briggs in anything below20 degrees.

Heatmor / Re: new heatmor and having huge issues

In my opinion the house is not putting a load on that furnace.  A friend has a 20 year old heatmor that heats a house the size of a barn with forced air....always green wood too.  This thread is doing a dis-service to an excellent brand.

I use both a 152 and 156 Efco.  They are excellent saws made in Italy....just a different name for the old Olympic brand

Swede, with temps like that how much wood do you have to load and how many hours are you going?

At dark around 5 I fill it full.  Go out at first light around 7 and add wood in the morning.  It goes through alot of wood at these temps

-29 actual with -40+ windchill factor a couple of nights ago here in northern MN.  Gives the stove a good workout

Not sold on the need for the flapper or larger fan.  We're running the 50cfm fan on 1/4 opening and its plenty of air.  Any more than that just blows heat out of the chimney.  No issues during fan shut down either.....

We heat a 3000 ft. home plus dhw in N. Minnesota with a stock 165.....no problems.  Expect 16+ hour burns in normal winter weather.  Don't let the Shaver haters scare you they are a good basic stove

Much smaller fires in the summer works for us otherwise temps can over run.

32/1  4 oz per gallon on all of my high performance two strokes...then tune accordingly.  Your engine will appreciate it

The 3/8" gas pipeline firebox is looking pretty good right now

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Water Temperature Crashed
« on: February 18, 2013, 05:56:06 PM »
Forgot to turn the draft blower fan back on after loading the stove last night!  Water temp fell to 100...forced air blower in the house still kicking on and off as normal and the house stayed warm.  I didn't even notice until shower time due to the cold dhw!

Is there a more efficient set up than water to air?  I'm impressed
