Central Boiler Indoor Water Temperature Indicator
« on: October 06, 2011, 11:13:53 AM »

Could anyone tell me how useful it would be to install one of the Central Boiler Indoor Water Temperature Indicator Kits? If I should install one them I would like to do so before I get my trench back filled. Also, why install at boiler rather than as soon as pex enters house?

Thanks

Can't see why you couldn't install it indoors on the supply line. You then have 75 ft of cord to run.

There are a few other options:

or

or

I'm using the latter two. The single for water coming in from OWB. The latter for my HWH (water in and out of HWH)

Thanks for the suggestions.

So what is the range of the wireless thermometers?

I have one on both of my 6048's you put it in a T fitting i put mine as close to where the pex enters the house then you have 100' of wire to get it mounted, don't cut or lengthen the wire it's caliberated to the unit. also both of mine read about 6 degrees cooler than the OWB. I find it handy.

Thanks Ridgekid, but I mean how much distance will the sending unit transmit to the display unit. BTW wrudoing posted that he sees a 6 degree temp diff between boiler and his temp sensor after the pex enters the house. Isn't that a big temp loss? Do you see something like that too?

Oh sorry- Misunderstood. Transmitters are in basement. I usually have the recievers in the kitchen (one floor above). I have had one reciever in my office (second floor) and it still worked.

Temp difference? 1F between OWB and HTX inlet temp. (our OWB is hooked up to go to HTX first, DWHX second)

EDIT: Found the box-good for 100'

I added one of the indoor water temp tees and I too get about a 6 degree lees reading than the boiler says. It is installed inside the house right after the 70' of 1" thermopex ends.

I am going to do more research with the wireless thermometer and see if it's reading right or if I'm loosing that much. Which I should be. Hopefully it's just reading different.

wrudoing have you determined if it's reading lower as you're kissing temp or just a different reading per the unit?

I have mine in a tee right at the indoor boiler. They come off from my heat exchanger but they are good for measuring temp drop as a heat zone calls.
