I live in the upper Penninsula and it has been -5 for a high and -30 at night, with some windy days. I have been coming home from work to hot coals and a boiler at 155 or so, after a 11 hour burn time. I would say a 8 hour burn time is probably what I am getting in this cold snap as well. Worst it has been in the last 4 years for me.

I used compression fittings that I bought with my Logstor. Can’t remember the name of the dealer, but it was in Ohio. Worked well, no issues with them.

On my forth year, welded the cracks to get through last year then removed the front of the firebox and replaced with 3/8 plate. Been running for 3 weeks or so and working great. Really been happy with the stove, except the poor design of the front of the firebox that I fixed. Still on my original solinoid, must be lucky I guess.

I hope so. Got it all done, insulated the front tonight and got the siding back up. Hardest part was getting my 6’5” 60 year old body inside the boiler to weld the upper part. Really felt my age at the end of the day. I took some pics and will try to post them in the near future.

« on: October 28, 2017, 05:06:56 PM »
Did not have enough time last year to fix the infamous cracks in my ridgewood the right way, so I ended up welding them up from the outside and inside. Stove ran fine last winter, but cracks came back so I decided to do a better fix. I cut the door frame out with a plasma cutter, then cut the 3/16 steel out that was the front of the firebox that is 36” inside diameter. I purchased a 3/8 thick, 37.5” round plate for 100.00 and cut the door opening in it today with a plasma cutter leaving radiused corners. I welded the door frame back on the 3/8 new front as well as the angle iron for the siding. I have the boiler all clean and ready to weld the new plate to the front of the firebox tomorrow inside and out. Hopefully this will fix the cracking issue and I can get a few more years out of this boiler.

Have them in mine as well. Guess my stove must have "overheated" like they claim on their website and then went back to normal operation so I did not notice it.....
Now they are selling a new and improved design to fix the problem they never had....
Going to cut the front plate out with a plasma cutter, then weld in a new front and install new angle to mount the door. Similar to the fix on the website.

Glad to see you got it fixed. Any problems, or is it working fine?

Looks like one thing in your favor is the weather heading our way. It's supposed to get to 50 next week and stay above freezing at night up here, sure you should be even warmer there. Are you still burning or letting the fire go out? Hope all goes well with your fix, and keep us posted.

Do you need a battery back up then like Natures Comfort uses on their GT6000 to close the actuator in case of power failure?

I have an automatic whole house generator I installed when I bought the house so this is not an issue for me. I am definitely going to do the Ranco swap out and re wire the stove to relocate the controls on the left side of my stove which is on the east side and out of most of the wind and blowing snow.

Glad to here you got through it and got it fixed intensedrive.

Sounds like a good summer project for me as well, install the Ranco and I have been thinking about installing an actuator in place of the solenoid.

I checked out the Ranco controller as well, and it does look nice. I really should have a spare controller here just in case, and thinking about swapping out to the Ranco if they are reliable. With the problems you have had, Chicken farmer and intensedrive, and Slim saying that they have had a lot of problems with Love controls, I would be interested in swapping mine out. Anyone using a Ranco, or used one in the past??

I am so glad I found this forum and took the time to read about everyone's experience with their underground lines. Slim and others convinced me that Logstor was the only way to go, and they were right!
