For Sale / Empyre Elite 100XT Stainless demo unit
« on: January 20, 2014, 05:47:07 PM »
I have the Elite 100XT that I tested and demo'd last winter now available.  It was sent back to Empyre and all upgrades were installed including the new 304 stainless firebox and burn chamber.  PM me or call for more details, this would be a great unit for someone in an EPA phase 2 stove that was on a budget or looking to save some money.   Depending on thr location it will heat under 2500 square feet

Check out the videos.  This is Josh McGuire in the blue 41.  I spent several years on the road helping out on the car and became really close to his family.  He sustained a broken c1 vertabrae but they expect him to make a full recovery but is still in the hospital.  This happened Saturday night at 201 speedway in Sitka, Ky.  Earlier that night he set a new track record of 12.51 on this 3/8 mile dirt track.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / I'm fired up
« on: September 28, 2013, 07:39:28 PM »
Gotta say I'm looking forward to this heating season more than ever.....  I've got a lot going on and I'm going to be implementing some new stuff this year.

On the agenda:  first of all, I'm going to re plumb my plumbing in my crawl space, yea, kinda boring...

Then I'm going to be installing a temperature monitor system which will give me real time data of temp and delta xt's across each exchanger that will be accessible on my phone or anywhere I can access the Internet.  Gonna love that, thanks to RSI!!!

Second, new pump experiment.  Electric use on the pumps is something many ignore but being a efficiency nut and having solar power, I decided to go after the most efficient I can.  I'll be installing a Taco Bumblee!  How it works!!  It has 2 temp sensors, one on supply other on return, when the delta t is minimal, the pump knows there is no heat load and slows down to as low as 9 watts of power draw, as soon as I start pulling heat, it increased speed to keep the delta t inside the parameters that I have set, get it?  Cool huh
Best of all, this pump will only pull 40 watts on high.  Will it be more efficient in wood usage too??  We shall see, let's face it, ALL underground pipe loses some heat, if I send less btu through the pipe on average, will that mean less btu lost, I hope so

Third. Proformer, I've sold quite a bit of this and folks tell me it's good stuff even though I've yet to use it, it's not ashtrol and sure as hell ain't lime. This product is said to put a coating on the steel, especially if used since new, and it also adjusts ph of the ash bed as well, you add a little spoon full a day on top of your wood.  What will this do?  Hopefully it will keep the firebox cleaner, the flues cleaner, which will make everything more efficient!!!

4th, a new stove, going to be testing what could become a new model of stove.  I'm not ready to tell what it is or anything like that, but will just say its something I'm really excited about.  If things pan out over the winter and the company allows me to talk about it I will, but I'm absolutely thrilled going into this winter, I absolutely love outdoor wood furnaces and everything that's involved with them.  Hard to tell that huh?!

Empyre / Empyre Cozeburn 250 Install
« on: September 05, 2013, 08:50:52 PM »

Thought I would share this job, the owner sure did a great job on his pad, installed his line in the spring and was ready when we arrived.  I like seeing these nice homes hooked up to a wood boiler!  This home is around 2900 square feet and is being heated now by an Empyre Cozeburn 250.

Empyre / Empyre adds a new line "stainless gasification"
« on: August 20, 2013, 01:26:42 PM »
Empyre has expanded the pro series line up and is now building a 304 stainless gasification boiler.  It is currently available in the Pro 200 and could prove to be the most corrosion resistant gasser on the market.  They are retailing currently for $10,495.  However at this time they are $1000 off, but only for a limited time.

This is something we started asking for 2 years ago and it is finally here!

HeatMaster / Heatmaster releases new gasification line
« on: August 16, 2013, 05:09:55 PM »
As many of you know ive been associated with heatmaster a good while but would only sell traditional non gasification units.   The new line they have developed is quite possibly the most intriguing design ive seen so far!  A whole new approach, the draft is totally variable, instead of the common all or nothing designs.  Cleaning tubes???  Well, not in these stoves, at least its done differently!  There is now a lever on the side that you work up and down when loading that spin tubulators that clean the tubes-all the tubes sre verticle yet efficiency is still great and emissions are lower than ever thanks to variable draft induction.  In fact it should easily pass the next phase of epa regs, im excited about seeing a new concept taken in a new direction!

I recently had the opportunity to  buy a solar power system from one of the stove companies I deal with.  They are branching out there dealers into other forms of energy.  So I couldn't resist not trying to eliminate the electric company even more, air conditioning ain't cheap!

This came as a kit and is pretty much a DIY project, the only part your supposed to have an electrician do is wire in the breaker.  The rest is plug in and bolt down, very simple.

This one I have installed here is a 5kw system.  I've been running it for probably 10 days now, it's producing 32kwh on good days and probably averaging around 25kwh so far because we had some really rainy days where it was over cast and only made 9-12kwh on those days.

This was the first one we ever installed, had all the panels up in one day, all wiring took just a few hours.  I'm fairly confident I could install one of these in 8 hours as they come as a kit with every piece u need, even the glue for the conduit.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / More about operating temps
« on: March 23, 2013, 11:42:35 AM »
Natures Comfort just added a new part to there warranty, which shows they to are seeing the importance of keeping firebox temps up.  They likely haven't gotten to the part of return temps being as important, but I suspect they'll be looking at some type of thermostatic valve soon as well

This is from the mew warranty.

The Nature's Comfort 20 Year Limited Warranty

Nature's Comfort LLC, of Shipshewana, IN 46565 warrants material and labor on any defects in workmanship on the fire drum for a period of 20 years from the purchase date to the original owner only (see proration below). The water jacket is warranted for a period of 10 years from the purchase date to the original owner only (see proration below). If there is a leak in your properly delivered, installed and maintained Nature's Comfort boiler, we will cover repair costs for the first 5 years and prorated after that (see below).  Repair can be denied if the unit's water jacket has exceeded 220 degrees. The aquastat must be set so the water jacket temperature never falls below 150F otherwise condensation will be created on the inside of the firebox and will cause corrosion that is not covered under warranty.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Thermopex Failure
« on: March 07, 2013, 03:27:26 PM »
I know this is sure to create a bit of hostility but I think the record should be clear that foam filled lines can and do fail as well.  As you can see in these pics, when thermopex gets a hole in it the package fails, it absorbs water at a rapid pace and could potentially cause more heat loss than a wrapped package with a hole in it.  Keep in mind I sell both products and I'm not taking sides, i just don't think it's fair for people to be led to believe thermopex is indestructible or even the best as far as heat loss.

These pics come from a respected forum member who has had his thermopex to fail and is now costing him a lot of wood.

In this pic you can clearly see where the line goes under the driveway.

This pic clearly shows the thermopex path leading up to the home, also water logged.

Another shot of the driveway, clearly showing more snow melt away from the driveway.

Empyre / Empyre Elite 100 XT Product review Part 2
« on: February 28, 2013, 09:25:07 AM »
As you can see my last product review on this product was January 1st.  Through all of January and the first 3 weeks of February I neglected the stove and didn't clean it out, just to see what would happen.

After nearly 7 weeks of no cleaning I removed the cover on the exhaust tubes and began to clean the stove, "I had noticed my stack temps were noticeably hotter by the way" the empyre brush is a flexible plastic rod with a piece of 1/2 pex slid over it for some rigidity.  The xt has 8 tubes, one of which was clogged, I had 2 more that took a little bit of effort to get clean but the rest were actually in good shape.  Even though they had build up, the build up was dry as powder and there was nothing sticky about it.  After 10-15 minutes of cleaning I was done.  Keep in mind that it had been nearly 7 weeks!!  With no additives, which I am thinking if I would have used proformer, the test may still be going on today.  However I'm still impressed that it could go that long, still function and give me good burn times, of course after cleaning it, efficiency did pick up and it began to use a little less wood.

So with all of that being said, and having no real different opinions since my first review 2 months ago, I still think that this is a very user friendly unit, the firebox as I have mentioned is a little small, but I'm not seeing any cleaning nightmares that we hear of on some models and brands.

My last review on the xt100 will be when I shut it down for the summer and end my testing of the unit, at that point I'm going to take it apart and see if I can see any potential problem areas that may be developing.
