To heat my 1900 square foot split level and hot water
for the last 12 months,
I used 1,215 gallons of fuel oil
which cost me $3,893.49
I live near Cleveland, Ohio.
I think that I should get an outdoor wood furnace!

Yes, we have 6 acres.
The nearest house to where I would put the wood burner is 400 feet away and not down wind.

I think my OWB paid for itself in about 3 years.  Watch out though the EPA is getting harder on these things now.  They have a list of preferred devices that meet their guidelines now...

The biggest benefit that I am getting out of it is the exercise.
Without that I would be diabetic and even more over weight!

i can understand where woodywoodchucker is coming from...these stoves are quite a responsability and not for everyone. I am sure there are quite a few folks whom have second thoughts about them after they carry the load of supplyingn wood to one for a few years

fortunate for me  i started many years ago feeding an indoor wood stove and my wife and kids went to the bush with me. we made a day out of it with bringing food and having a cookout. the kids loved it. now they are grown up (one is 22 and one is 26) we still go as a family when we can all get together on a weekend. it is no longer a cookout but it is a good time to chat about what is going on in their lives and such. I find in this work envirenment they are much more open than trying to get them to chat at the kitchen table

for those who learn to hate their OWB ....do get rid of it, it will eat you up in hate... for those of us who don't..enjoy it to it's fullest, not only the "free" heat but the good times that go along with gathering food for it also.

if you are lucky enough as me to have at least one year (sometimes 2) of wood ahead then you can just cut wood on preplanned days and it is much more relaxing than always being "almost out of wood" and have to go even on nasty days
