Title: Burned coal for a week straight.
Post by: Jared43758 on December 18, 2016, 04:29:33 PM
Added coal once a day. No wood. Never had any problems. Just got a tip from another member and set my diff at 2 degrees.  That week was in 20-40 degree weather

What does coal cost where you are?

That would be cool for these cold overnights, might pick up a 40 pounder and give it a try.

I pick it up in my dump trailer for $75/Ton. It is Bituminous and unprocessed. Works great for 24-36 hour burn times. I have had success with straight coal "no wood" as well.

I used Bit coal. And $75-80 dollars a ton. Unprocessed.  Only thing I didn't like really was how long my blower runs per cycle.  I figured when I went to 2 degree diff the stove would kick on all the time. But it didn't kick on any more frequent then wood does on the 12 degree diff.  I'm guessing cause when it's stops that coal is prolly glowing red mass in the stove and continues to transfer heat for quite a while.  Coal is a lot slower to pick up than would and my stove would run sometimes over a hour before it shut off an that's only to pick up a couple degrees

That for this cold weather?   My blower in my 200 has been going nonstop anyway.

How far open is your damper when it's running for long periods Coolidge?

That would be the target temp, do you need to bump it up a bit?

I don't think so, boiler is running great, with my heat load and extra kid around. Better to have it running than gumming up.

Thats where I’m at with the 400 now, tightened the shop up considerably trying to keep mosquitos out after the 13 inches of rain we had in August, won new windows for the house so now the other half has been changed out, was minus -13 here yesterday morning, a few hours after I turned the shop heat up the G400 was back to cycling. Wasn’t much a problem last year as I could always load it light and keep it running around 176 degrees. Have another dealer south of me that has a shop his other brand boiler isn’t keeping up, may trade him for a new G200.
