milk tank stove
« on: August 28, 2019, 04:06:22 AM »

This was a first for me. It's an old homemade stove made from a milk tank. It's been running for years, but moved to a new house.

Almost looks like it's set up like a garn. I always find home built stuff interesting.

Doesn't it rain in your neighborhood? I see a dead Grundfos in the near future lol

I should have explained, he's going to build a cover to go over the pump. I saw a Carolina stove that had a taco pump out in the weather for years, I was surprised it held up.

It's like a Garn with no fan, I think it'll take several firebox loads of wood to get it up to temp. I crawled around inside the tank, it's huge. Too big really.

Will he insulate it then and build a shack around it? How big is the firebox and what sort of heat exchangers are in there? Pretty cool idea

Looks like a stove shoved into the tank! I still like it

It's just a square firebox with a square exhaust tube running straight out the back kind of like a CB Classic. No fancy heat exchanger. Then the vertical chimney drops into a flange. Natural draft, no solenoid or fan. All stainless. Fairly crude, but simple once you learn how much wood gets a certain temp rise in that big tank.

The tank is insulated already, so he was going to build an insulated cover over the pump.

Like night and day running this G400 yesterday. Fastest I've ever seen a G4 heat up. Maybe 90 minutes from dead cold? The last had a 300k pool heater pulling on it, hovering at about 80% draft.

Nice looking stove!  How well does it burn with natural draft versus induced draft?

You guys are giving me some ideas!  Gonna have to get me another welder and see what I can come up with.
Advanced electronic controls with me but the welding might take a bit to get back into as I haven't done any for maybe 15 years ;D

One thing with this stove is the load times are cut in half I bet  8)

The milk tank stove burned really lazy, needs a blower.
The G400 is a completely different animal, roaring like a jet.
