Central Boiler / drain water out of 5036 and shut it off
« on: January 02, 2018, 07:32:37 AM »
Our house will be vacant indefinitely.  My plan is to drain the water out of my 5036 and shut it off.  What do you think?

I also ordered a gallon of 1650XL Corrosion Inhibitor Plus.

eBay!

The impeller was completely gone.
I called the guy that works on my well water.
He said that the blockage would not be in the heat exchanger.
It would be at the first constriction which is between the pump and the shut off valve.
Sure enough, he found pieces of plastic in there.
And now I am back in business!

Thanks for the info!

My Central Boiler 5036 has been running continuously for 5 years and 1 month.
I keep it going all summer just to heat the hot water.
My Taco Model 009-F5 Circulation Pump just died.
The plastic impeller had disintegrated and was mostly missing.
This is the first problem that I have had with the furnace.
It boiled over and I lost about 4” to 5” of water.
I replaced the water and ordered Permanganate so I can test the water to see if I need to add corrosion inhibitor.
I also ordered a gallon of 1650XL Corrosion Inhibitor Plus.
I replaced the cartridge with Cartridge # 009-021RP.
It is working but apparently the flow is obstructed.
I have a water to water heat exchanger.
My guess is that the heat exchanger is plugged up with pieces of plastic from the impeller.

I have a Central Boiler 5036 outdoor wood furnace which heats the house plus the hot water even in the summer.  The pressure tank on my oil furnace is leaking water.  Here is the quote to repair it:

This quote is to replace the shut off valves in the system that are bad and to install additional valves in each heat loop on the supply and the return. lnstall shut off valves in the boiler main supply and return. New valves in the supply water line and install new air purge valves in each heat loop. The expansion tank and air vent will also be changed.
The heating system will have to be drained to do this work. After the repairs are complete the system will be filled, all air purged out, and the system put in operation.
TOTAL COST FOR REPAIRS...,$127O.OO

Would I be better off depressurizing the system by eliminating the pressure tank and the heat exchanger?

The biggest benefit that I am getting out of it is the exercise.
Without that I would be diabetic and even more over weight!

I just read Ohio's proposed regulations for outdoor wood burning furnaces.
They must be at least 200 feet from any property line.
  They must be EPA Certified.
Or they must be taken out of service by July 1, 2015.

Great barfing shot!
How did you get that shot of the cougar stalking a deer?
I forwarded that "GhostlyCarAd" to a few friends.

Yes, we have 6 acres.
The nearest house to where I would put the wood burner is 400 feet away and not down wind.

To heat my 1900 square foot split level and hot water
for the last 12 months,
I used 1,215 gallons of fuel oil
which cost me $3,893.49
I live near Cleveland, Ohio.
I think that I should get an outdoor wood furnace!

Central Boiler / $12,300!
« on: May 06, 2008, 09:48:03 PM »
I have an oil-fired, pressurized hot water baseboard heating system with a domestic coil.

I was quoted $12,300 for:
  Central Boiler 5036
  25 year warranty
  175’ Trenching & ThermoPex Pipe
  heat exchanger
  spark arrester
  50”x66” patio block slab
  sales tax

How does this sound?
