Title: Hot water smell
Post by: Shrek1112 on December 21, 2014, 09:15:05 AM
I recently had a HE-2100 installed with DHW plate exchanger on the outlet side of my water heater.  I have turned the water heater to pilot mode to save more money but we have recently noticed the strong sulfer/rotten egg smell. I have read many articles that point to anode issue but it seems odd that it would happen right after our broiler was up and running. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem is with your hot water tank/anode rod....or well. I doubt your boiler water would cause any problems as the boiler water and domestic water are separate loops.

Thanks Roscoe, you are absolutely correct. My anode rod was non existent and covered in slime.   Removed, flushed the tank twice and instsntly the smell is gone.  Thanks.
