Fire Wood / Re: slab wood bundles BTU extraction

Those look good, go for it.  I've burned some that were around an inch thick and still had bark, that was a lot of work for the time it burned.  Took like 50 pieces to fill the boiler up, used an old buzz saw to cut some of it.

Not familiar with that one looks a little different then mine, best I can say is try to test both sides of the relay and see if its working.  May be able to get a stand alone relay somewhere? If the burner fires I assume the transformer is good.

Finnish grit will be 60 or 80, can't remember exactly what I used when I did our hard floors.  As said above go at an angle with a drum type, I didn't and have a few groves in that floor now.  Finished with stain and poly here although that many not be what you want.

Have the harbor freight model and it leaves some to be desired, but works for the price.  A better vice and more modes of adjustment would be nice (only one angle of adjustment on them).  Still beats a file, unless you are real good with one like some on this site claim.

Smashed my thumb between the door frame and a log once, fractured it and left a nice bruise.  Never know how much you use your left thumb till you can't for a month.  Did it right around a holiday to make it worse.

Here the ash is dead enough you can burn it the day you drop it, tests under 20%.  When I run out of it I'll be in trouble, the amount of mud we've have here the last couple years makes it impossible to make any head way without frozen ground.  Then the crops get in the way.

No Planters rolling here, maybe May 9?  Still working on them and in no rush, lakes still half ice.

General Discussion / Re: Flying squirrels

Could try a rat trap if they are small enough, almost got a red squirrel with one.  The red squirrels like to live in my attic, got a few with small box trap and nuts.  Gave them to a trapper said they make Barbie clothes out of them in.  Good luck they are tricky to trap, still have one to get, dog is on a mission to find it.

Equipment / Re: Question for Skid Steer Owners

Don't know if could justify one for just wood, have ours do to farm and livestock, couldn't function without it.  For woods only tracks of some sort would be preferred (don't have any) a wheel machine can sink and spinout fast, would consider over the tire tracks if it weren't for barnyard use.  That being said its a life saver moving and splitting wood, have a splitter don't have a grapple but considering one.

One wouldn't have to give up the backhoe and mower they are available as attachments, at least rough cut mowers.

No pic but have a 12*20 carport from menards over mine set a little off center, can store wood on both sides if I ever get that much accumulated. No snow or rain while you are loading is nice.

I think the beam is 6-8" wide and I have a single wedge.  Normally only split logs larger than 8in, smaller ones can be a little more difficult to see, 10in and up isn't too bad just have to center it based on what you see on the sides of the beam.

Didn't build it, but I have this and like the design.
Ok can't get a pic to work so here is the site for the manufacturer
http://www.skidsplitter.com/#hd

I seen then I had sent them an email on info and $$ what did it cost and wich one did you get

Looks like I paid $2,800 in early fall of 2013 for an HD30.  Though I did find a different place had become a dealer for them and I think they were selling them a bit cheaper.  There is a bit or freight getting them to Ohio, after looking at all I could find at farms shows and fairs that was the best build unit I could find.

If the pic works this time, the ability to do this is my favorite part(ability to lift logs up to cut).  So far the largest log I have split was 28" in diameter.

Central Boiler / Re: Dealer in Central Ohio

There is a Portage and Main dealer in the Ontario/Mansfield are that I bought mine from if your interested in looking that way.  The service was acceptable to me but I knew what I wanted.  Too bad the power show was last week, that would have been you best chance to compare makes and find dealers.

I never saw a yellow marked chain I work for the state dpw and they only use the green ones!

I never even heard of this colour coding , but I'm not in the wood cutting business.
Does this system of grading chains, exist in Canada?
I bought a chain last year and there was nothing on it except, STIHL??

Learn something new on here everyday

Looks like you don't have the color coding up there, reference these two links from oregons catalog.
http://www.oregonproducts.com/pro/lookups/selguide.aspx?BusId=OCS&SellReg=USA&LangId=ENG  US
http://www.oregonproducts.com/pro/lookups/selguide.aspx?BusId=OCS&SellReg=CAN&LangId=ENG  CAN

Notice how the US one has colored triangles next to the chain description.
Edit tried the link you will have to put a saw in for it to work.

For the OP on chain tension read your book, mine say as long as you can drag the chain by hand with a good glove on its not too tight.
