This is Jeff the owner at Z Supply, LLC. Ridgewood was one of our best customers and we supplied them with much of the insulated pipe they sold, also many pumps, heat exchangers and pump flanges. I want the customers of Ridgewood Stoves to know we will continue to honor the warranty for parts we provided. Because we are not doing business with the company that used to be Ridgewood, these issues need to be addressed directly to us.

You can tell if your insulated pipe is ours, it has a distinctive white outer casing. Pumps would be Honeywell or Grundfos. A proof of purchase, would of course be required.

We are also working to stock the replacement parts most often needed by Ridgewood owners and have opened a Ridgewood specific web site at www.ridgewoodparts.com. We will continue to add parts as what is needed becomes apparent. If you visit please fill out the newsletter form so we can keep you informed.

I am saddened to see what has happened to Ridgewood and understand how frustrating that must be to you boiler owners. But please be aware that we cannot help with issues pertaining to the boiler itself, warranty for parts we did not supply or issues with the company.

Wishing You All The Very Best,

Jeff Zack

Michael,

Send it to me. Needs to be at least 16" total (cut is fine). Best if from the new as long as it is the same roll as the failed PEX.

Kind Regards,

Thank you slimjim. Of the many, many PEX manufacturers in China, only 2 are NSF Listed.

Michael,

Does it have any "Made In" marking? I am betting it is China. Does it say anything about NSF on the PEX? While PEX for hydronic use does not have to be NSF listed, if it is, then the facility,  will have met NSF guidelines.

Your PEX may not have been crosslinked fully. One of the dirty little secrets of Chinese PEX is that the crosslinking process, which for PEX B involves a steam chamber and hot water ran through it for 24 to 48 hours, is often skipped. This is particularly true for O2B PEX or when they know it is going to hydronic use. I believe they are betting that the end user will finish the crosslinking with their hot water. This saves them perhaps 2 to 4 cents per foot. I know this from sending samples of Chinese PEX for testing.

Plumbing / Re: Pex vs Pex-al-Pex
« on: April 15, 2013, 07:29:11 PM »
Daped01,

It can be a bit confusing, even for me, and I deal with this question all of the time.

The ID of 1" pex is .875", the ID of 1" pex-al-pex is 1.032". The actual metric size is 26/32 mm referring to the ID/OD dimensions.

This compares well to 1 1/4" pex which has an ID of 1.052". For this reason many choose it when flow is important.

IMHO, for the cost, pex-al-pex insulated pipe has a better cost to BTU delivered ratio. It is more expensive than 1" pex but considerably less than 1 1/4" pex. But of coarse only a portion of installs need anything more than 1" pex. So no reason to upgrade for most.

The fittings are more costly so factor that in.

Some like it because it stays straight or bent when positioned.

Almost all of it, including ours, is imported from China.

IPEX who used to make it in North America left the business in 2009 and refuses to return. I have tried to convince then even writing the CEO to no avail. Though I did actually get a nice letter in return.

I hope this helps.

Hellonwheels,

This is Jeff Zack from Z Supply.

I see, from your post over on Hearth, that you had a bad experience with a different brand of wrapped pipe. I am sorry that happened to you. At Z Supply we have purposed to not allow QC problems like the pinholes you experienced. That is one of the reasons we chose white for the casing, QC is simplified from manufacture to burial, much easier to see any problems. Our casing meets ASTM F405 specifications and the spec sheet is on our site ( www.z-supply.com ). We have a real QC policy and process. We are striving to be a different kind of underground supply manufacturer.

What I am saying is, please do not lump Z Supply in with any other company just because the products are both wrapped. Check out our web site and give me a call if you like.

Best Regards,

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Electric generation?
« on: April 24, 2012, 07:45:50 PM »
Yes, the overall efficiency is about 10%. There is loss at the HX, at the expander, and at the generator, it mounts up. Plus parasitic loss at the working fluid pump and perhaps elsewhere. I don't think Infinity has a recoup which uses the exhaust of the expander to preheat the working fluid before it enters the heat exchanger. That helps a bit.

If it were not a tough nut to crack they would be everywhere.

I have been deeply interested in generating electricity from heat for some time. As you guys have already discovered TEGs are far too expensive for the output. Do a google for "Organic Rankine Cycle" this has the most promise right now. The problem is in the expander, but this will happen in the next few years.

Hello Folks,

This is Jeff Zack from Z Supply, LLC. I’d like to thank you all for discussing our products and hope no one minds if I offer a bit more information.

Also if you visit our web site at www.z-supply.com you will find two new videos that address many of the above comments.

First to our temp loss tests. These were conducted in real world environment by contract and we had no influence on the results except to provide a quality product for testing. The test pipe was 250’ long which is our standard roll size. With the pipe buried, a ground temp of 50° and under a load of 63.5k BTU eZe Flex lost 0.87° per 100'. Water temp at the boiler was 178.97°. Without a load the loss was 0.72°. All of our test results were performed after constant state had been achieved and were the average of 3 separate readings. No fudging and a reasonable 5 GPM flow rate.  But what about the disclaimer which was noted above by a poster? We know the test system was well designed but you all know that not every system is. Because of design variation we don’t think it reasonable or wise to guarantee temp loss in any individual install.

Our Silverfoam is an additive enhanced PE foam with a significant advantage over standard PE foam. As the site notes we have it manufactured specifically for us and to our specifications. It is a closed cell PE made in the United States and we laminate radiant barrier to it ourselves in our factory. Silverfoam is proprietary to us and I hope that you will not mind if we do not reveal the specific chemistry.

The only other manufacturer that I am aware of who has posted results of temp loss testing is the competitor who I suspect makes a pipe also noted above. Those are on the manufacturer’s sales site. That post claims 1.24° per 100’ for a three wrap product but offer little information as to ground temps or other test parameters. I have never seen any temp loss test results published by any of the manufacturers of the urethane filled foam products. I would be grateful to anyone who can point me to a manufacturer who has done so.

At Z Supply we have a passion to make and offer a quality product at a reasonable price.  I can see where some will feel the urethane filled supplies are superior, and in some situations that well be true, but we offer a value proposition that works well for the majority of OWB users.

Thank you once again for your interest in our products and for the opportunity to post on this forum. I wish all of you the very best in your 2012 endeavors.

Best Regards,

Jeff Zack

Hello All. This is Jeff  Zack from Z Supply. Thank you for taking the time to discuss our eZe Flex. I hope you don’t mind if I make a brief reply here…

The $7.80 on the web site was an error. That should have been for eZe Flex with Pex-al-pex only. For potable water pex we have always been at an MSRP of $6.25.  I saw, with great embarrassment, the error on the web site and hope that it happened during a recent update I had done. Thank you to this group for prompting me to check it.

In brief, our SilverfoamTM is better than standard PE foam and it is proprietary, we use pex made in the USA by Watts, the outer casing is also manufactured specifically for us and exceeds ASTM F405 specifications.

We have worked hard to develop a quality product and deliver it at a reasonable price. If any of you would like a sample just PM me or use any of the links on the web site. Better yet call, once again, the number is on the site. (without error I hope..)

This is my first post here. I had not known about this board until it showed up on our sitetracker. It looks like a great resource and once again thank you for taking the time to examine and discuss our product.

Best Regards,

Jeff Zack
