Electronics / Heat from HX turning furnace fan on
« on: October 22, 2013, 03:36:47 PM »
I hope this isn't a topic that has been covered before, I searched but could not find an answer. Started my boiler two days ago and I'm finding that the heat from the HX is turning my furnace fan on. The furnace is an older (1997) propane Intertherm in a mobile home. The exchanger is in the bottom of the furnace. I've disconnected the limit switch (one with the reset button) and the aux limit switch by the blower. I've also turned off the pilot. The blower kicks on and runs for about 1 minute to cool down the plenum. Behind the "control box" I'll call it, there is another limit switch by the fan switch. If I disconnect that one, the fan will not come on at all. I'm not a HVAC guy, but a pretty good DIYer. I know the heat from the HX is turning the fan on, but would like to find a way to let the thermostat take control. I appreciate your help in advance.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Ridgewood Skirt and Light
« on: September 20, 2013, 05:49:21 PM »
I bought my outdoor stove from my local Ridgewood dealer, Craig Wertz and have spent the spring and summer hooking it up and building a workshop. All summer I've planned on adding a light to the front of my stove and a skirt to seal off the bottom. I called Craig at his shop and he set me up with pieces of the outside metal and a couple of corners for my skirt project. I finished the plumbing and wiring this week and started on the skirt.

I started by adding 2" ridged foam insulation. 2" fills in the space between the stove legs and the outside siding. It fits perfectly. I didn't want the insulation and skirt metal laying on the concrete, so I picked up some pieces of cement expansion joint material made out of rubber. That will keep everything off the cement.

I worked my way around the stove with the insulation.

Making my way around the stove with the insulation actually went real well.

After the insulation was all set, I started on the metal skirting. I removed the corners and the screws along the bottom holding the metal to the side of the stove. I positioned the skirt under the outside and installed the bottom screws and the corners.

I'll tell ya, I'm pretty proud of the way it looks............

I also wanted an outside light on my stove. When I ran power to the stove, I ran a wire to the front of the stove and added a light. It is an LED security light and I used a curved extension to position the light higher and position it forward on the stove front.

Next step, get some water in this thing, It's about time for cold weather.  ;D
