Fire Wood / selling firewood? ???
« on: March 20, 2015, 09:39:46 PM »
Well I'm officially done talking to timber buyers. No shows and he hawing are apperently the order of business.

So I'm cutting it all down. I gotta get it done.

So what is firewood selling for these day's. I'm in northern indiana.

I figure the boy has to cut and split it anyways, he may as well make a buck.

Also, does anyone prefer buying whole logs? Or is seasoned split the only marketable wood?

I'm cutting red and white oak and cherry. Tomorrow hopefully a few dozen trees will be on the ground and processed into logs.

So our new property is all ours. Lil spot out in the sticks. Perfect. Except,  apperently it's been a well used spot to party and other mischief.

Including the making of meth from what we've found.

We had every intention of putting up a gate and the road commission cleared  that. But I'm thinking  a typical farm gate is getting drove through.

Hence the gate I intend to build, 3" hardened pinstock 14' long. Apx 40" high bit covered by a nice wood fence panel or whatever is cheap.

It will open out only and be mounted and close on 2 big trees. So as not to be pushed in. No trespass signs mounted directly in the middle.

It will eventually be replaced with nice tube gates but, I don't want to buy 30 gates keeping meth heads out.

 Any suggestions or opinions?

Equipment / jonsered cs 2250s. anyone use one?
« on: December 13, 2014, 09:04:00 PM »
Ok , the deals getting done on our property, so I'll be clearing soon. Almost completely wooded. Old growth.

I'm gonna buy a new saw. And the jonsered has some followers,  I like stihl, but I think they may have a bit of a "name tax" , I am not trying to be cheap , but also don't care what it says on the side of it.

We use huskys  at  work, they're a decent saw even though most are in need of maintaining. One fell in a lake but we're still running it.

I can borrow a big saw, I just need a handy saw.

Please voice your opinions before I buy something I regret.

Hi yall. My first question is, can a firebox be too big? I'm thinking not, but, then I got to thinking. Maybe as the wood burns down there might not be enough fire/heat to properly heat the large and almost empty firebox enough to produce usable heat.

If kept loaded I suppose this wouldn't be an issue though.

What I'm planning is a firebox apx 36" across x 48"high x 60 deep. My plan is to build it like a stretched out octagon. If that makes any sense.

I have 3/8" mild steel for the whole build. But considering using 1/2" on the very top and possibly the bottom. Doubt I'd need to but could.

This will be  a forced air furnace with a stoker blower and hot air blower on thermostats.

Also wondering about stack placement. I'm thinking through the top but also considering out the back. Both would be apx 2/3rd to halfway into the firebox to hopefully pull more heat off the available fire.

We'll, any suggestions would be great before I screw up something simple.
