I agree with if it fits don't split.  Sometimes some large rounds need split just enough to get them in.  That is all I do.  I prefer to go with the least amount of wood labor as possible.

I use both I tired to load with big chunks first then finish loading with small pieces to fill it full. But last year was my first year with an owb

Thats all good until your back blows out lol..Hey more power to ya.....Keep in mind, those big chunks of wood that throwing in..Your probably wasting wood thinking big is better..
