If I'm going away for a long time I throw the bypass in the water circuit and turn the boiler temp down to 160. This stops the house from taking any heat from the boiler but allows the water to circulate through the lines to the basement. I leave the pump running and leave the fan operational. On a full load of well seasoned wood with a little bit coal mixed in the boiler will remain at temp for a week in normal weather (or longer), in these sub zero nights I have gone 4 days and returned to a boiler at temp and enough coals to fire it back up with a new load. I turn the house down to 50 and let the propane do the lifting while I'm gone.

You are on to it! $75 a ton in my neck of the woods for bit coal. Have burned about 2.5 tons this winter!

Looks like I may be buying a new boiler soon!

Went to the neighborhood HVAC/controls wholesale house and picked up a Grundfos 26-99f, put it in last night! Still want to get warrenty help on the other pump to have as a back up.

Call NC directly. They have been very good at getting back to me.
I'd just buy a Grundfos water pump, forget the warranty, and the hassle. They run for a long time. I keep one as a back up.

It don't suck off of the bottom of the tank so I don't know what it is, I'm def not crazy about broeders, if it still under warranty call nc and have them allow you credit on the armstrong e9 pump, it's a much better design, flows more water and uses well under half the electricity of the broeder.

How long is the warranty on the pumps on these? My dealer is about  douche I called him about these and said he was going to call them and see was going on but never calls back. Last year he quit answering the phone when I called. I tell people that ask me about unit I liked the unit but hate the dealer. I got hooked up with James vanhorn at NC been big help as well as this site

Hey there!

Your grates never get clogged when burning coal? Any other recent observations to share?

Yes they do after 3 or 4 days burning wood/coal mix. I plan on my clean out day and let the stove burn down. Then just shovel out the ash and clear the air holes. I burn the coal in the front over the air holes and keep wood in the rear at the flue, when it burns down there is always enough wood coals to rake forward to re start the fire.
Also remember; wood coals on the bottom, layer of wood on top of wood coals and up the sides, coal in the middle over the air slots. I'll put together some photos as soon as I can.

Which Oxford mine plant do you get it from?  I seen a couple when trying to look it up.

Tunnel hill mine, Oxford Reclamation 740-343-0195...Becky is a dandy too!

I don't get it guy's???? You all burn so much more wood than I do. I'm heating 3600 SQ/FT ranch + blowing some heat in the basement cause I like warm floors. This house was built in 1970 and has 4" of insulation in the ceiling. I'm in southern Ohio and it gets darn cold here, -10 in the next two days. I would have to leave the windows open to burn as much as some are on here. Something is wrong fellas!

Now for coal....I've been burning coal this year almost exclusively. I by from Oxford resources in New Lexington Ohio for $75.00 a ton, so far this winter I've only used about a ton. Did start out on wood in October but switched to coal at the start of December. My boiler is not a coal unit but I did some mods to help me burn coal. A wood/coal boiler is much better if your considering burning coal. If I burn 4 tons this year it will be a lot! I live on wooded property and have been burning in this boiler for several years. All wood at first and not that good of quality, 5 full cord was worst winter....some of you guys that are burning so much more must live in the Yukon :o

Buy the way...that 1.5 tons of bituminous coal from New Lexington on the truck!

My 325G does the same thing (boiling sound near the front door) when it's trying hard to recover from a big call for heat.

I load in the morning while mommas in the shower. Also keep my “loading clothes” in the mud room. After I’m done I get ready for work.
