General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / School me on Heat Exchangers
« on: November 28, 2013, 08:10:53 AM »
Good Morning and Happy Turkey Day
I have a Woodmaster 4400, have had it for 7 years now...very happy with my set up
I use it to heat an old farmhouse that has undergone a complete renovation.
The house totals out to about 3000 square feet, some larger spaces and vaulted ceilings.
WWe use hot-water baseboard and heat our hot water with it as well.
When we first purchased the furnace we were only heating half of the house.
The renovation has been done in stages and for 6 years we have had 1/2 of the house finished.
Now that the other half has been opened up, insulated and finished, we have installed heat.
There are now three zones operating.
Should I assess my heat exchanger size/capacity?  I am producing enough heat for the house bbut, as we are just getting into the true heating season, I am wondering about my efficiency - would a larger heat exchanger be more efficient?
Just looking for a little info.
Thanks!

WoodMaster / Woodmaster 4400 boiling over...seems to be a trend here
« on: January 15, 2012, 02:15:25 PM »
Hey all,
I have had a woodmaster 4400 for 5 years now...it has worked great so far.
I did some modification on the settings 2 years ago and put my top end temp at 185 and my lower end at 175, to get a little more heat into the house (heat exchanged into hot water baseboard...have 1 poorly insulated wall in the house)
anyway,
this year has been (up until now) unseasonably warm and snow-free
but on windy days my furnace was boiling over - temp was getting up into the 215 range, shutting off the snap disk and boiling out large quantities of water.
i replaced the door seal rope yesterday...thought that was my problem...used 1" rope (i believe the correct size)
then today it did it again - it has been excessively windy this year but no worse than in the past.

on a prior post on here a couple people mentioned a flapper above the door fan not sealing correctly
could anyone explain the process of checking that out and adusting/fixing?

i am also going to use the bucket over the flue method to check for an air leak now too.

but i'm thinking that flapper has tobe the culprit

WoodMaster / 4400 Aquastat replacement or adjustment
« on: January 16, 2011, 01:41:36 PM »
I have had a 4400 for about 3 years now...love it,
i can't find my owners manual and i can't find one in pdf. online
my furnace is currently set for 170 degrees kick on, 180 degrees off
with the woodmaster, can i change the top end to 185 or is 180 the limit.
if i can, how do i change it
if i can't, has anyone ever replaced their aquastat...if so, what brand, was it difficult?
i think, in the coldest part of winter, that little bit of difference would make a big difference in the house...
thanks in advance.
