Something to add about heatmor 200 css 1996 model
« on: November 08, 2013, 01:50:14 AM »

Its all about install like every brand . I have 3 zones heating 5500 square feet with average insulation in 2 houses and shop and garage . It heats everything about 12 cord last year all wet oak .  Now Its also about how you burn it . I go all year and never clean chimney never have to its always clean .  I keep firebox clean don't let ashes build up . Keep good seal where all gaskets are and your good to go . I cleaned out fire box last year and added more sand as some gets scraped out when cleaning and fire box burned all them years and all steel in fire box looked like new yet . All I know in 1996 Heatmor built one awesome stove :) I'm running hot water lines 275 feet total in the ground also heavy clay in a woods .  Thats my Heatmor review . One last point use semi heater hose on door (blue). Its well worth the $40 bucks ;)

Hey Heat my HS1 is a Heatmor knockoff, that tip on the semi heater hoses is a good one, I change mine every year now because of past failures, I always wonder what would be better, will be trying that next year for sure. Do you ever hear boiling water in the door? It takes a few tries to get it right to cut the hoses just the right length so it allows the door to swing all the way and yet doesn't pinch with the door shut, thought of maybe getting a 45 elbow on the tank side especially for the bottom one. Since you brought this up you must have had yours leak before also?
Had mine since 04 and also really like my stove.

I got my 200 in 06.  Hopefully it lasts as long.  I just replaced the fan last year and have changed the heater hoses at least every other year or when you can hear the nylon 'crunch' when you pinch them - the last three years.  I like the idea of a better hose also - how long do the heavy truck hoses last you?

I also have had a boiling water problem in the door - started last year.  Before that it was just a light thumping.  It is kind of violent hammering now as the steam escapes back into the main body.  I have tried flushing the door, but all clean and thought it was better last spring after replacing the fan, but still doing it this fall.  I did also replace the circulator pump last spring.

I think I may have shortened my lower hose a bit too much the last time I replaced the hoses, it seems to distort when I have the door closed which I think is restricting the flow enough to make the water in the door boil. I put valves on my hoses so I can change them with out draining the boiler, I think I may try getting metal braided hoses like they use in muscle car engines, the semi hose thing got me thinking about better hoses and maybe that will help with the door, dont want that door to get too hot and warp. I am toying with that idea of the 45 degree elbow on the bottom one also but not sure, will probably fit one on there and see how it looks first. It's a funny thing, seems to me they fit best when the door is halfway open and compromised when the door is either open all the way or closed all the way.

I read this awhile back and wondered if those who are having water boil in the door have their flash curtain/heat shield in place. My neighbor took his out because he said it made wood loading difficult but I'm guessing Heatmor had good  reasons to put it there.

I have never removed that shield Idaho but I can see how that may change things. The funny thing is I don't think my boiler started doing this until a couple years ago, I am going to add a 45 degree fitting on the bottom and try that to give it more of a straight shot at the door when it's closed. After all the hose changes I have done over the years I may have cut the bottom hose a pinch too short and that is making it restrict.

I have had the water boiling in the door since mid last year.  I took the shield out after it started making the noise and it made no difference.  It is so much easier to load without it I haven't put it back in yet.

Interesting you would have the same comment about the boiling at almost the same time. I can see that it would be much easier to load it with that plate removed but just never did, if it really doesn't make a difference...?

I guess I wouldn't recommend removing the heat shield as I am sure it does serve a purpose, but it is so much easier to load I figure I will take the chance.

Yes I do hear a small bubbling only when its at 170f +. Its started that after I added the 3 zone so I was thinking it was just water flow issue as I have one zone with taco 011 and 2 others with the taco 007  so I might be getting 30 gallons per min with the 3 zones . Cant say for sure . As that would mean all water is being cycled every 4 mins hard to believe . I always kept the fire sheild in place as the door would just get hotter was my thinking . and so far sence 1996 I changed my hoses 4 times . it was the 4th time I'm using the blue semi hose . I always used best hose napa store had . first 2 time I changed because hose was hard . 3rd time was bad I loaded the stove looked down and seen the spray :)  quick clamped it off ( oo by the way keep a set of vise grips by stove at all times and dont use them for anything else only for heatmor this should of been in heatmor Manuel I think thats why that top shelf is there :)  )  What made this bad it was -20 f when it did this . This lead me to the semi hose idea . Dealer says every 3 years Im thinking the blue semi hose will go 5 years well see . I will see if the hose gets hard before then . I run my stove 170f to 180f max at top of stove at this temp I can hear a sizzling of the tank water bit like a simmering water kettle . Its always done it . I will look at my hoses tomorrow and get a picture for ya .

Check your water level . Or build up on inlet and outlet on tank in front  . Or water temp is to high.  Maybe call dealer he have a better idea on the newer style heatmors.

Ya your missing out on burning your hand has you load it without gloves . :) Only did it once and it left a impression ya never again :)
On my old 1996 model if the heat shields removed you end up with flames shooting at you when you load it when stoking the fire .
with mine shields a must . Still end up with burned eye brows sometimes . Its the smell thats the worse :) oo and keep oily gloves out of the fire box also . Last tip  carhartt lining isn't fire resistant .

Good stuff Heat, I have to look at my door but I don't think the hose connection on the door bottom is like yours, will check on that.
Have burned off an eyebrow before! I have burned a coat or two also and know someone that started a fire in his house with his coat which had an ember in the sleeve, be careful with your old boiler coat.
My temp is set at 180 with a 10 degree diff, maybe that higher temp contributes to the boiling in the door? I have valves on the boiler side to shut off the water to the door because I have witnessed the hose spring a leak also.
