scott,

earth units are not   " CHEAP & SEEMINGLY RELIABLE "  as you stated, they are very  reliable well built units . earth is a family owned & operated  company.
shipping is not 500-600 dollars it depends on you zip code shipping runs roughly  @ $1.00 per mile. i looked at a lots of outdoor units before i decided to become a dealer for  earth  . i talked to the owner & his staff several times, visited a ohio dealer looked at some of his installs, talked to his customers, liked what i saw & heard. when you call earth a human answers the phone.

some of the many reasons i chose to become a   earth outdoor wood burner  dealer.

any questions, just ask..

as far as dealer support call & ask earth about it, they are the ones that have the final say  how do you arrive at  25% more wood, do you have hard data, & where did you get it ?

let me make this perfectly clear.  {  who said that. }?    anyway i am not pushing   earth  even through i am a dealer here in ohio.

i bought 250' of there 4 in one pipe it is insulated ok, but not great. one of the reasons i`m putting it in  s& d pipe is that it is very  ridgid moreso in colder weather & yes if there  is a problem i will be able to pull it ou & put in new.

there is  better insulated piping on the market, but this will work for me. i have a high water table on the farm & the 6" pipe will keep the insulated pipe dry.

water table is really something to think about.  you have to run power to your unit & if the wire is not in the piping you have to bury it in the trench something else to go bad..

jonesy,

we have the mountain man 505 unit to heat home 3300 sq. ft. & pole barn 3500 sq. ft. also d h w for both, furnace is not hooked up yet still in the barn, if it quits raining long enough i`ll dig the trench & install it out by the barn.

i looked at the 500 but did not like the grate took up to much room & the loading door is smaller. we got the 505 more btu much bigger door & fire box.

i am going to put the pex piping i bought from earth in 6" sewer & drain pipe & bury it if i ever have any piping trouble i do not have to dig up the whole line to replace it.

our unit will be about  150' from the house.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: water lines submerged
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:26:02 AM »
here is what hapened to me.

bought from earth 250 ft. line set with 2 water lines electric wire & make up water line . buried  3ft. deep 100 ft. long, sealed hole in basement wall, capped other end { no owb yet still waiting on it } put hay in bottom of trench put in line covered with hay, backfilled. all is good,   not .

nxt. day it rained for 2 days, 2nd. day  went to basement , whoa  water all over floor checked piping wall seal is good no leaks, checked inside of pipe  soaked , holes in pipe allowed water to enter & run into basement.

called earth, they never heard of such a thing they asked me how i installed pipe & yes i was very careful i did not damage pipe.

they said they would send me another 250 ft. of pipe, so now i have to dig it all up & start all over again.

check your pipe carefully before u bury it..  anyone had  this happen.  ??
