I have a Hardy H2 that I would like to extend the chimney on. It comes out of the top instead of the rear like some other units. It also uses single wall pipe instead of double. Anyone have any pics of chimneys that have been raised? Any ideas how to make extend it without harming the wife's eyes?
Thanks!

You can check out my post in the hardy section on my new and improved.................

You will want to use double wall pipe if you extend it more than a couple feet. Otherwise it will get a lot of creosote built up.
-
I have a tall stack..I'll take some pics and post them..
-
Heres a pic of my tall stack..Its up 19feet from the top of the boiler..
-
Here's another pic.. 12 gauge stainless steel wire attached to turn buckles at the boiler then a chimney attachment ring near the top of the stack which I got from a Central Boiler Dealer
-
Matty you must have had to build a staging to get that chimney in place.
Did use a staging to a certain point..Other than that it was put up in one piece..

heck with the chimney! I thought I had alot of wood but man you have it licked. matty is there a sawmill or something behind those trees? >:D >:D

MattyNH;
If your name indicates the state in which you reside, I too live in NH. It's a small town not too far from the Connecticut River about 15miles south east of Hanover, NH (Dartmouth College area) the town is called Enfield.
I see you say you burn between 8&9 cord of wood a year. How many square feet are heating? I'll be heating approx. 1000 square feet of a house built in 1840 with the Central Boiler E1400 Classic.

Roger2561,
Yes I do live in New Hampshire.. I know where exactly where Enfield..Up off of Interstate 89..Was working in Lebanon all last week..Square footage Im heating is 1800 plus hot water 7 months out of the year, and the house is 75F all winter.. Also my basement is warm because of the hot pipes running from the wood boiler to the oil furnace.. I got a friend of mine that lives in a house that is built in the 1700's...Wall studs are like 2x3's or something like that..Pretty much paper is the insulation..He goes through about 13-15 cord a season.. Is this your first time heating with the E-Classic?..Ive seen them around and at the dealer in Dover....Never seen one up close running.. Only in the distance..

LOL!! You have one of those as well? When I told my wife I was going to build a firewood storage shed she "demanded" to see plans of any sort that i had...it will NOT look ugly dear.
Good luck with your search. I'm quite certain these guys on here will help you out...great lot of knowledge on here.

Just curious how did it increase your wood usage because of your high stack?..

My guess would be that there is an air leak (at the door or fan, etc) and the longer chimney is increasing the draft enough that it pulls more air in while idling.
If there is smoke coming out the chimney now while it is idling and wasn't before that is the extra wood leaving. lol
-
Rsi I thinkyour right what is now happing is that the extra draft is causing the flapper on fan to open during my idling times. thinking that i might angle the fan and flaper to get gravity to help me.
-
ive moved mine up to 10 feet and it dose seem to use a little more wood
-
7734 how do you have that stack braced?
Everyone else, thank you so far for the pics you have provided!
-
here is a pic. I made the bracketing from 1 inch x 3/16 angle

i need to extend my chimney not by 20 ft but something like maybe 6 to 8 ft,problem is it measures8 1/4 inside and 8 1/2 outside . i cant seem to come across anything like that other than a piece of cast water pipe from like the town water line but its to dam heavy. :bash:
