Shaver Furnace / When do i know my circulating pump needs to be replaced
« on: December 11, 2014, 07:35:20 PM »
2nd season with my Shaver furnace, everything has been going great until tonight.  My circulating pump on my furnace quit working, it was working this morning but when i got home it was off & steam was coming out of the overflow tube on the side of the furnace(i could hear the water bubbling).  The unit is approx 5 years old, but i have heard pumps should last pretty long, could the water getting too hot have an impact on the circulating pump working?

Thanks in advance for any advice..

Shaver Furnace / More Rookie Questions
« on: February 27, 2014, 03:26:58 PM »
At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, i throw myself at the mercy of this forum.  I have called & left several messages with Weld Rite, but no reply.  1st year with inherited Shaver 165 & having heating issues (house wont get above 65 degrees)

1.  Does it matter where you build your fire, on the grates or off the grates in the back of the box?
2.  I thought the way the furnace was supposed to work was once a fire is built it will stay burning hot while the blower is running.  I cleaned the fire box out completely, started a new fire, fire gets really hot with doors open, but when i close the doors & turn on blower the fire seems to almost go out after a few minutes, becomes real smokey with no flames.  I open the doors & the fire takes off again.
3.  The plate on the back of the furnace is not sealed, i can lift it off, i have felt the water by hand & it is luke warm at best.  Should i seal this plate?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Shaver Furnace / Newbie Question
« on: February 03, 2014, 05:51:00 PM »
Hi, this is our 1st winter in a house we purchased that already had a Shaver installed (not sure on the model #, it is a front loader with ash door).  December the unit worked really well, we saved 50% over our November bill.

Currently I have been having trouble keeping a fire going after i shut the front door. Smoke is hardly coming out the chimney stack, I have cleaned the stack several times this past weekend & the issue remains.  As soon as i shut the door smoke comes pooring out the front & ash doors & when i open the door a ton of smoke comes out & the fire is just smoldering.  Any help for a rookie would be greatly appreciated!!
