Was wondering about the door gasket. I installed a rope gasket in place of the silicon. After about 3 weeks of running the door gasket is pretty hard and starting to leak a little smoke, although it is not affecting the fire at idle, at least not now.  Is this normal for a rope gasket on the outside wood burner

Plumbing / Re: sharkbite fitting

the part# is H4X28 for the 1in.,,, description of o-ring is 4x28 buna 70 metric o-ring. I believe Motion Industries got them from APG Ohio 1-800-883-7457.. being these were a special order I had to order 50 of them, still less then the cost of 1 fitting. I did get them relatively cheap. I only used 6 of them so if someone needs a few of the 1in o-ring for the shark-bite fitting I will pass the savings on to you. e-mail gets my attention.
by the way the one I had leaking was my fault, I pinched it during install 3 years ago, late last burning season it decided to start dripping when I shut the flow of hot water off during warm days , then seal itself when I would turn the pump on in the late evening.
the 3/4in. o-ring  is close enough you can find it in any good parts store, but not the 1in. jim

thanks guys, yes I talked to the people at Shark-bite and they told me the same, if the o-ring was damaged they aren't  replaceable. I think the guy's jaw dropped when I told him I had them out. any way I was able to get them through special order through a company we dealt with through work,( motion industries ). you will not find them in any part stores, you will find the diameter but not the thickness. in other words they are kind of a bastard, but they can be replaced,i don't care what Shark-bite says. also they are 100% made in Australia so they are probably metric in size.
thanks jim

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Still burning!
« on: May 13, 2012, 07:19:03 AM »
It seems funny to let the house get cooler in May then it was in January so I will just keep the fire burning. So this "mild" heating season is turning into a 8 month fire for me. I don't know what I am doing wrong, I read where guys get through a season on 6 pickup loads of wood or only burn 5 or 6 cord in a standard boiler, heating a similar sized house as mine! I am going to be at 10 cord when this is all done, even with this mild winter. Oh well, I guess it has something to do with keeping the house at 75 or the long hot showers? Anyone else still burning?
i believe when someone post a usage similar to that they aren't being honest . i have been burning since the middle of Sept.2011 and still going  for hot tub & hot water and occasional heat. real close to 11 cords when done at the end of may.

when i shut mine down i clean it out as best as possible and put a can over the chimney to keep rain out and that's it.  if it makes you feel good by spraying oil or what ever in it, then do it.
