General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Wood consumption Outdoor vs Indoor
« on: November 17, 2014, 04:29:58 PM »
I'm definitely burning more. The thing with the indoor with me is that I didn't always have a raging fire in it. Some days I would light it first thing in the morning and then not need to fire it up again until after supper. Like you I'm also heating my dhw and just today I finally got my new shop hooked up with in slab radiant. I burnt 6 cords last year and I fully expect to burn at least 12 this year with the shop

My mixing valves came with temp strips that you stick on to the mixed pipe after the valve. Turn on that loop and adjust the heat setting to desired temp

Same thing here. I have about 2 cords of the small stuff left from last year that I was burning in my old indoor forced air wood furnace. It doesn't  last very long, but it hasn't been very cold here so it has been working fine. I used some of the wood I prepared for the owb a few times and the same amount compared to the small stuff would last 24 hours no problem.

I have the same chimney as you. I tried getting on from them and I think they are just a distributor. However, they did tell me where to get it locally

I get condensation out the ash door especially if I'm burning wood that I don't have under my lean too. We have been getting lots of rain as of late. I hope it clears up when the colder weather arrives

I do get some smoke, but I try to only load for 12 hours and there usually isn't much wood left when I go to load the next time. Also see if you can catch it when the fan is on

All runs are with in 20 to 30 feet of each other in length and no more than 250. We ran them starting on the outside and worked our way in as we went. Looked around for plans on laying them out and never really found anything to go by. I will be using a mechanical mixing valve and running it around 110 to 120. Hope to have it up and running by the end of next week

Are your pumps pushing or pulling? I think slimjim suggested that the supply be from the top and the return be at the bottom. That's what I did with mine

So the loop by the doors should be on a higher gpm than the others? I went with 12 inches on center for all the loops. Can the supply be warmer than 80? I was planning on setting it at 110. Like I said, totally clueless with this stuff so expect many more questions.

Plumbing / inslab radiant heat question
« on: November 05, 2014, 03:35:21 PM »
I'm about ready to hookup my in slab radiant heat in my shop for the first time. I have 6 loops of approximately 250 ft. I'm using a 50 plate off the bl 2840 and that will be hooked up to this manifold. http://www.ebay.com/itm/360791092709? Since this unit has adjustable flow rates built in, what should I be setting each loop at? I'll be installing a mixing valve so what should my supply and return temps be at the manifold? Sorry for all the questions. Not the least bit familiar with this kind of system. Thanks

The pipe dope did the trick. Thanks again.
