Hey the bus is coming
« on: October 03, 2015, 02:39:04 AM »

AAAAH yes, it's that time of year again folks, the Schools are all open again, children waiting impatiently for the bus and the buses tying up traffic making the commuters late, Please use patience!
On another note, some of you are aware of the project that Dan, my wife Mary Lou and I have been working on, my old Ford and service trailer has seen a lot of miles, the trailer needed to be replaced and the ford is getting tired so we ventured into this new project, this is why I haven't been on as much lately!
We are not finished yet but this morning we will be headed for the Fryburg Fair again to promote our products and services, for those of you on here that may never see it, I thought I would post a few pictures, we give things close to us a nickname, the old ford was Willin, the old GM is the Gem, my wife Mary Lou goes by ML to her freinds and the bus is named after her for allowing me the time and finances to get this project underway, we are going to call it Emily the Magic Bus. Please take a look at the following pictures and give me your feedback

When I was in school, and I think it still works this way, the back of the bus is where the magic happens

And then there is the Brindle, we built this from scratch buying only the raw steel, axles, and winch! 8000 pound pull strength on the winch, 5800 pound axles each, oh boy does this pull nicely behind the Magic Bus

Notice the Logstor laying flat, it is on a big Lazy Susan, the table turns with real ease making it possible to pull the pipe from any direction before unloading the stove, strapping down is easy and secure, both bunks under the stove are removable and there are pin able landing gear on the rear posts, all LED lighting and electric brakes!

Looks awesome slim. Should make unloading the boilers and selling pipe a much easier task. Good luck and have fun at the fair

May just be me, but I thought safety chains were always supposed to be crossed under the hitch.

That bus still have the DT466 in it? Great motors, the three we have on the farm if it gets cold enough to where they don’t want to start, you don’t need to be outside.

How’s that trailer pull when empty with no springs on the axles?

Yes on the chains and being that the bus is air ride, you wouldn't know the trailer is behind you!

Is the trailer new or have you had it for a while? Is that a winch or hoist? After a lot of research I decided against using a winch on my trailer and went with a 2 ton Coffing hoist. The wiring as also a lot easier to deal with. Just 14 gauge wire is all it needed since it has a 230v 3 phase motor.

How are the axles attached?

New as of about 2 months ago, we built it here at my shop, it's a winch and trolley with removable bunks and the axles are brand new 5800 pound Dexters, they are welded in solid with no springs.

I got a 74 Chevy 1ton rv...it looks like a ups truck/but it is red and no driver door.….anyway what u needed to do ....take some 1 1\2 blue or pink foam board, router out a channel in it 8" oc , lay/press in o2baierr pex lay the floor of your choice over top ....plum the tubein to your cooling system of your bus...WA-LA heated floors !  As u drive !  Happy feet and a warm rv/bus to boot! U could even tap into your boiler at shows and  get some useful heat to show folks !

Awesome setup, Slim! I'll probably be picking your brain a little bit in the near future when I build the hoist on my trailer.
