Title: sight glass
Post by: tinfoilhat2020 on March 02, 2018, 05:06:26 PM
do any of the dealers on here know if Heatmaster has a new and improved sight glass coming down the alley at all? I really want to come up with a retrofit idea that works better than the current design. My inner glass is charred black after one heating season and is impossible to keep clean, especially with not being able to get to the inside pane of the inner piece.

Now I understand that hey have a 2 piece glass system to slow down heat transfer to the outside pane so people don't burn the tip of their nose off when looking in there....LOL. Stove is working awesome, im just an A.D.D. freak and I would love to have a clear look at the flame.

Thanks

I'm not sure, figured I'd hear about new stuff coming sometime this spring.
The glass is removable with the right tool. Compress the ring and it falls out. I'm running a GS without the sight glass of I'd try it on mine.

Yep, a pair of snap ring pliers, compress the snap ring and the glass comes right out

Yeah the only problem with that inside pane of glass if that you have to relive the insulation panel on the door as well a d I don't want to risk cracking that while it's still in use. I already have a few cracks in that inner pane of glass as well...hmmmm, maybe a thicker piece of Pyrex???

Yes, that is my only complaint with my furnace.  Not much use for the sight glass when it is covered in ash and/or charred.  I do like that I can at least see the glow, but would love to watch it burn.  I hope if they fix it we will get the update.
