General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Wives
« on: March 09, 2015, 12:20:04 PM »
I have a great wife, will do what needs to be done, she keeps wanting to run a chainsaw, but my son and I both keep putting her off for any training.

About a year ago, we test drove a 50HP Kubota tractor, 4x4 with loader........ let my wife drive it.  She truly had a look on her face that said, "if I had this, I probably would not need a man anymore".  We joked about it, but still.....I did not buy it.   ;)

She is my best friend, best helper, mother of my children, married for 25 yrs, and as Slimjim said, probably a unicorn.

You guys make me laugh, but I also share in not having cut enough wood this year, I always marvel at those that prepare better.

The wood backup pictures are improving my thought process on where to store wood.   :post:

I go to smaller split sizes in warmer weather and use less wood, single row instead of double row, but we like our house warm, spoiled at about 80 degrees, seem to help the arthritis.

I have good neighbors, they told me if it is leaning my way, cut it before building any new fences.

Maybe a sign that says security camera, a few armloads a day would add up.

You might consider having the property appraised, and go from there.  Our property value had declined substantially from what it was worth a few years back, sold it anyway.   But think hard about getting out while the getting is good, and don't be surprised if you wood fire gets put out once the gas plant gets in production, this happened locally with some people burning trash beside a lp gas company.

Social Media makes what was once a stupid act that a person could get away with, a career ender.  Get you a game camera next time, strategicaly placed, then, post the pics on the web questioning what "said" person was up to.

Fired the Woodmaster 4400 last night, local temps dipping into the 40's and low 50's.  Had a nice toasty 80 degrees last night for awhile, then again this morning.  System is running and operating normal.

I am looking forward to my second season.  I feel like I will start getting to visit my old friend again soon.  I have four nice chain saws now.   I am still learning, and still do not know what I do not know.  But, we survived our first winter on the farm and look forward to the second one.  Busy, setting up a birthing area in my shed now for my goats.

WoodMaster / Re: Glycol or Antifreeze
« on: August 06, 2014, 05:40:48 AM »
I have been debating this same issue for "year two" with my Wood Master Wood Furnace.  Being a noob with one hard winter past, I have been concerned about the risk of the fire going out and the sytem freezing.   I am not sure how big a risk this is, or how fast this could occur.

This post has helped me to conclude to just run water as we do have nearby ponds and a well on the farm. The risk of contamination is substantial.

If a person needs to leave town for awhile, do most just drain the sytem?
