Winterizing Outdoor Stove
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:19:10 PM »

Hi All,

We have a Mahoning outdoor stove in our hunting camp.  My question is what steps should I take to winterize the stove during the cold Northern PA winter months?

I've wondered if there is someway for me to use solar power to operate a water pump and water heater of some sort to keep the water semi-warm all winter so I don't have to worry about pipes freezing.  And has anyone used or considered using a 50/50 coolant/water mix to avoid feezing?

Open to any and all suggestions.

Thank you,

Andy

Wow, 250 read and no reply. Go visit any heating system supplier and they'll happily sell you propylene glycol (NOT ethylene glycol) to fill your system. I have it in mine, because I want to travel without worrying about freeze-up. It will still freeze at low concentrations, but it only gets slushy, and won't break anything.......
