Torqued my knee
« on: October 31, 2015, 06:02:37 PM »

So a couple of weeks ago I was coming off my ladder and in my haste to get down I thought I was on the bottom rung; nope.  I was the 2nd one.  Imagine the jolt to my body.  Imagine the pain in right knee.  I finally got it checked this week after hobbling on it for about week and a half.  The doc says I didn't damage (thankfully) any of the ligaments or cartilage, just torqued the knee and badly bruising the top of the fibula (small bone in the lower leg) and stretched the surrounding muscles.  Well, today I was working around the house and I couldn't understand why knee was hurting so much again.  It finally dawned on me this afternoon - I forgot to wrap it when I got out of bed this morning.  Man, I'm beginning to realize the 54 is not 24.  What took a couple of days heal now takes meds, cold packs, rest, braces and a bit of tolerance for pain before it decides if it wants to heal.  This getting older thing is for the birds.  Roger

Yes I am slowly learning that 50 is not the new 20. It is hard to slow down but after awhile your body will make you comply.

Yep!  I think I'll buy stock in ibuprophen.  Everyone I know whose approximately my age have to take the stuff.

Who knew that the acronym RICE stood for; Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.  All this time I thought it was food.

If you think 54 is  old, wait till you hit 65, just a couple of months away for me. And I can still keep up with the 30 year old's as long as I get my noon nap in!

I know the feeling, have had a right knee thats in layman terms is junk.

If harvest goes well enough and we get done early I’m gonna have it looked at before premiums go nuts next year.

It will be understood though it will be repaired, not replaced as I’ll go elsewhere.

Just coming in from cutting wood and my 58 year old body demanded ibuprofen. Was just sitting back waiting for them to kick in and read this post. Nice to know I am not alone!

Aleve here, was taking naproxen but they are the same more or less, straight naproxen was tearing my stomach up something terrible, add tramadol to the mix and it was like having the 24 hour stomach flu for a few weeks.

Aleve PM at night along with some melatonin.

Be careful with that Aleve. I had to have a Kidney removed 17 years ago so I'm down to 1. My doctor at Mayo Clinic told me to NEVER take Aleve because it would tear up my kidney. You might want to talk to your doctor about it.

always thought tylenol ate your kidneys up?

my bad, must be liver, the wife’s liver numbers were out of whack after her last open heart, our doc told her to never take tylenol again.

Maybe because you only have one now Aleve is a no-no?

I will be 54 in December, I can relate to everything said here.  As my 80 year old Dad says,  "Just stay above the green ".

He still cuts his own wood.
