Im getting ready to install my 30 plate exchanger do you think i would give up much heating value to leave the 3/4 in lines I currently have or up it to 1in I currently have it reduced to 3/4 because that is what size the current fittings are on the old exchanger

Central Boiler / Chimney rain cover over stack
« on: February 10, 2014, 01:39:45 PM »
Is there any good points to putting a rain shield above the outlet of the Chimney or is it not recommended I put one above mine a couple of year's ago its about 8-10 inch's above the outlet. I did have a Chimney fire 4 day's ago and noticed that i had some build up on the stainless steal cover I had installed that was smoldering. Thanks for any input

I had the same problem last week I was using poplar Ive since cut some seasoned oak and it burns longer, I don't know which type of boiler you have but i have to clean the damper plate surface about once a week because mine will get a little crud under it and let more air get to the fire box causing the wood to smolder (burn more than it should)

I measured mine the other day its 5x13x1in thick I thought it had 1in fittings but its 3/4 fitting's I remembered after seeing the red Pex that I had to reduce it to make it fit. My main run from and back to the boiler is 1in as this is what size my main heating coil take's, I cant complain but so much Ive been running boiler constant since Feb of 2009 because I heat my hot water in the summer months also.
