Is the grundfos a variable speed? It would be nice to dial the flow to weather requirements. Also where would you mount indoors in basement or on the stove where it is now.

Plumbing / Taco 009 replacement
« on: January 14, 2015, 11:32:58 AM »
I have an e 1450 running thru 140' of thermopex one way to an oil fired boiler core and back. There are 2 1" copper 90s and 2 3/4 blackiron 90s also 4 ball valves 2 1" and 2 3/4" full port. Also have the CB thermostatic valve piped in. My taco 009 is on the WB and I wood like to get a better pump with more flow.
Does any one have some suggestions or would another circ in series work also. I have a spare up 15 42

Thanks
Jon

Plumbing / Re: Hooking up to indoor boiler

Slim Jim you are saying install the 50 plate exchanger on the return leg to the boiler and disable the oil burner with an aquastat on the incoming water line from the outdoor boiler. My installer wants to put a different aquastat on the oil burner which would be able to turn down 160 which would not be ideal baseboard temp. sounds like your idea would be better. My installer is very good just not as experienced with OWB. I thought a wrap around pump would eliminate having to change anything on on my existing boiler but I am not keen on spending the money on electricity for 2 circulators to be on 24/7 if I heat my dhw in the summer when heating the pool. What would you set the other aquastat at 150?

Plumbing / Hooking up to indoor boiler

I am tying in a 1450 to a pressurized oil boiler with 4 zones. 3 for baseboard heat 1 for indirect DHW. I planned to put stub ins on the return to the furnace after the circulators for a 50 plate heat exchanger and turn the set point on the burner down to 160. I have a coldstart control on the boiler (150,000 btu) Was wondering if I should go with a wrap around to keep the boiler hot all the time then I wont have to turn the temp down on the boiler. Downside to that is a warm basement when heating the pool in the summer. Any thoughts would be great.

General Discussion / Gasser Life Expectancy???

I am looking at the CB 1450 e classic and the Empyre Pro Series 200. How many years can I expect out of either stove with dry wood and good up keep. Running year around with pool and dhw in summer 2800 sf house with lots of windows in the winter. Adirondacks northern ny climate.

Why are they not making the 200 I was going to put a deposit on one over a e classic 1450 after seeing one last weekend. My only concern would be controlling it for domestic and pool in summer not enough demand. I may have to go with the CB after all
