Plumbing / manifold setup
« on: December 27, 2012, 07:08:50 PM »
Have a few questions. Right now i have hooked up my plate exchanger for dhw then it goes through the house heat exchanger then returns to furnace. I want to hook up another heat ex in the basement. should i make up a manifold setup??? Or just hook it in the loop?? also if i make manifolds should the dhw ex be hooked in with the manifold or have the water go threw the ex first then the manifold.

thanks guys

Home Made / mahoning project
« on: June 03, 2012, 11:26:41 PM »
Just took my mahoning 300 offline an doing some major changes. I wasn't very happy with its performance last year. It burned a lot of fuel, an I had a hard time keeping it going. Many times I'd come home an the fire would be out. so I'm adding a foot to the water jacket for more capacity. My questions are I've been searching around at other furnaces an like the idea of the
p@m with the multi pass heatexchanger for the flu gasses. Would adding a exchanger like that increase the efficancy?? Also any benefit to adding a 2nd blower forcing air on top the fire also??

I also installed 100' of thermopex. I think I was loosing quit a bit of heat threw my old lines. Always melted the snow.

Will post life of progress.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / water storage
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:35:54 PM »
I have a 275 gallon tank, would it be worth adding it for storage? This would double my water capacity. Also I have a taco 0011 pump, would this pump be enough to pump into the tank an back to furnace?? Or would I need to add another pump on the return side? The furnace is about 70ft from the house an its a mahoning owb.

Plumbing / pump may be bad?
« on: December 08, 2010, 04:54:25 PM »
I just installed a mahoning a couple months ago. Now that its getting cold out it dosnt seem to want to heat the house. Our house is under 3000sq feet. The furnace is 225,000 btu. The hottest I can keep it at is 70. Any higher an the blower will run all nite cuz it wont heat past 70. I also heat our domestic hot water. If I go down in the basement and touch the lines the domestic hot water lines are much hotter than the ones for the forced air.

Could my pump be going out??? Its a taco 009-f4.   I know its working I can hear it running. Not sure how old it is the furnace was a reconditioned one when I bought it with all used components in the back.  Could it just be that it cant keep up to the demand or may be plugged??

The air from the register dosnt seem all that hot either. Its warm not hot. Any ideas?

Thanks

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Mahoning furnace
« on: December 06, 2010, 12:58:38 AM »
Hi all.

I'm new and just got a Mahoning furnace 2 months ago and love it!!!  I heat a old 2 story home and my domestic hot water and a pool this summer.  I'm still kind of browsing around at competitors furnaces and was wondering, How do they figure out the BTU's these babys can produce?
My furnace is rated at 225,000 btu's. Firebox is 48 inches deep, and holds 290 gal of water. I see other furnaces that the firebox is WAY smaller and holds less water but is rated at a higher btu?

So How is the BTU's figured???

Thanks
Ryan H.
